POST ABLATION AND ALCOHOL

SilverliningsForNow profile image

I have seen a lot of posts here at this time of the year talking about the odd pint or glass or two of bubbly/wine. Thought this might help. I had an ablation in September which has been extremely successful and I was down to half a Bisoprolol and 50 Flecainide morning and night with no palpitations/AF whatsoever. Stupidly Wednesday morning I forgot to take my medication and went for afternoon tea with my daughter in law. One cream scone and a glass of bubbly down and bang! AF. 170-190 bpm for 4 hours! I texted my cardiologist who as always was wonderful and recommended the extra 50 Flecainide to stop it which it duly did. Moral of the tale: Alcohol is OUT! I have done that, had a great time doing it, but AF and alcohol do not mix - not the odd glass, or smell of the cork, it has to be nothing at all if I am to live with AF. Happy to report no incidents since at all and I’m guessing if I do my job my heart will do its. Have a wonderful Christmas everyone ❤️

I had an ablation in May and can have the odd pint without any reoccurrence of AF.What should I do?

Enjoy. We are the lucky ones whose ablations found the exact spots and while I try not to over do, I enjoy wine or whiskey in moderate amounts on a regular basis. ...now three years out with no problem.

Yep for most its a case of move on and find another drink but beware low alcohol beers they have given me the worst AF
