Can you get Memory issues taking 2.5mg bisoporol and 200mg Flecanide a day

I’m sure my memory has got worse since I was diagnosed with Part Time AF and since I’ve been taking the drugs as above

Is it common or am I just getting old lol

Hard to say if symptoms are from AF or the drugs but I certainly suffered badly with Brain Fog on Bisoprolol - after I stopped it and cleared it from my system which took months - it felt as though I’d woken from deep sleepy nightmare. My cognitive function improved - I could make decisions again - awareness and memory improved.

Trouble is you only realise in hindsight.

Even though I’m only on 2.5mg a day ?

We are all different and react so differently to these drugs. I know people prostrated by 1.25mg and others quite happy on 10mg!

Ok Bob thanks for the response It’s not disaster just now and then and sometimes waves of tiredness hit me

I was on 2.5mg bisop for just over a year. Had an ablation in august and am currently weaning off the bisop. Im down to 1/4 tab and I’m already noticing a crazy difference in just about every mental faculty there is. I woke up today and it’s made me realise just how much the tablets were taking away.

Similar to what cdreamer said it’s quite scary how much they take away and how easy it is to get stuck in a rut and start forgetting how you were before. Exactly as cdreamer said it is like waking up from a dream. I’m not even off tabs completely yet so I can’t wait for Wednesday now. Just hope my heart holds up 🙏🙏🙏🙏

P.s flecanaide absolutely sucked the life out of me. I couldn’t stay on it for longer then 8 weeks. I was absolutely desperate and took myself off it and just started taking the bisop again. My EP agreed but to be honest they didn’t have a choice 🤣

We are all different though like Bob said how I’ve reacted might not necessarily be the same as you 👍

Well I'd been putting my poor memory down to age, but I think blaming the Flecainide is a good idea as I take that.

My very short term memory is terrible and I find it extremely frustrating when I can't remember what I was about to do just a few seconds before! Grr. But maybe that's age, or so other people tell me.

I take 5mg Bisoprolol am and 100mg Flecanide am and pm (together with another collection of tabs) . I'm happy that it keeps my PAF at bay but I do find the Bisoprolol pulls me back at times.

Google says that beta-blockers can cause memory loss as a side effect, but you know what Google's like.

I am endebted to my good friend Hilly for this.

I came, I saw, I forgot what I was doing, retraced my steps and got distracted on the way back.

I have no idea what is going on and now I have to pee.

I read on Wikipedia that they were Julius Caesar's actual words, but his PR agency changed them to those we know. I gather it was the lead in the water from those pipes they invented.

But so very true to life for me. Well done to your friend, Bob.

Now, what was I about to do?? Doh!

Mmmm..I suspect memory issues are common for us AFers increased by some of the drugs for some of the people for some of the time!

I can only relate my experience on one drug 200mg Flec. over age 60 - 68. My memory has deteriorated more, I feel, than due to the age change. In the earlier days anxiety made that worse, some has come back since I am more relaxed AF free - which is a great feeling!!

Coping : I find I am now spending a fortune on post-it stickers, leaving things around the house to prompt me & much more often tieing a knot in my handkerchief!

I agree, post it notes are essential, and endless lists.

Brain fog. Not medically trained but I had it with diltiazem. Took 4- 6 weeks after I stopped taking it to get my sharpness and memory back, and Ii then realised that I had been even worse affected than I thought I was.

1.25mg Bisoprolol just wiped me out, I could not tell you whether I had brain fog or not as as I was asleep mostly and excessive tiredness the few hours a day I wasn't.

From my population sample size of 1 ( so I realise not a valid study) , I think its the rate control meds that cause the brain fog.

I’m on only 1.25 a day of Biosoprol and definitely noticed my memory had got worse. Mostly it’s when I’m recalling something in conversation and it’s suddenly not there! It seems to be an intermittent issue though. 😆

I tried the knot thing - when I remembered something I was supposed to do before bed, I would tie a knot in my dressing gown sleeve. The trouble was when I got up I couldn't remember what it was, and it would bug me for hours! I find a diary is good and the calendar on Outlook great for reminding me to do something at a particular time.

You are not getting old! I was on same medication as you. My dosage of Bisoprolol was increased in May this year and that was when my symptoms seem to increase.Life was living in a permanent fog , so lethargic ,

I was so confused got to the stage if someone talked to me I just couldn't understand what they were saying , slept most of the time .I described it like wading through mud getting through the day.

I put lots of the symptoms down to getting old or the Afib. I am 65.

I was so miserable then I read on this site a lot of people were saying the medication can cause a lot of the symptoms and some people were having similar problems as myself.

I mentioned to my cardio nurse and asked could I try some other medication.

Long story short prescription was changed now take after a lot of discussions

Flecainide 50 mg Verapamil 120 mg Apixaban 10mg my new cocktail.

Life now is like seeing in 3d after living life in a thick fog.

I realize everyone is different some patients don't have any problems on the same medication I was just one of the unlucky ones.

For me changing my medication has worked still have AF still short of breath ,but can cope so much better with symptoms as I am no longer a zombie.

Good luck with everything.

After taking 10mg then 5mg bisoprolol for around 3 years, I found that my memory of facts, names etc was declining. I was struggling to complete simple general knowledge quizzes, and it was quite a revelation to read that bisop may be the cause. I have since weaned myself off completely and the improvement is dramatic, clearly noticed by my wife. I have no doubt that the bisop was the culprit. The wild psychedelic nightmares which amused me but had never been experienced before have also gone. Just my experience, but my cardiologist is aware of my decision to drop the beta blocker and hasn't objected.

I used to have a good memory until I started Flecainide. They have nothing else to offer me, so I’m stuck. I can’t have an ablation because It’s to risky for me.

Iv taken 10mg bisoprolol daily for a good few years now and seem ok 90 percent of the time but some days I do find it hard work to concentrate and seem to just float through the day oblivious.!!!! I am a man though so that’s probably normal.?😂
