Does flecainide cause memory loss/issues?

Does flecainide cause memory loss? My memory used to be perfect, and now it’s causing me and my family a lot of concern. I was prescribed flecainide 50 mg am/pm about 2 years ago to supplement my diltiazem because I was having breakthrough episodes. I didn’t notice memory loss right away because I was stressed out taking care of my dying father, but it’s been very obvious this past year that something isn’t right. Anyone else have this issue??

How much Diltiazem do you take? Maybe the combo is causing a problem? I used to take propafenone (same class as Flec) with Diltiazem and the effects were awful, life in slow motion.

Good question! Never occurred to me it might be that combo. I take 120mg daily of diltiazem. The cardiologist that put me on both drugs is now in research, so no longer sees patients. I will be starting all over with a new doctor on the 29th of this month. It’s a virtual visit and I am nervous he won’t want to change anything😏

Those are both the smallest doses so difficult to see what could change downwards. Let’s hope he has a helpful suggestion.

I have been on 200mgs Flecainide only for 6 years. My memory suffered, particularly short term when anxiety was higher and sleep pattern was poor but it improved again.

Thank you for sharing! It really does help to know that others have experienced it. My mother passed away 4 years ago from Alzheimer’s and I am worried sick that is my future. I tend to keep things in, so that would make sense.

I have been on flecainide 100mg twice a day for 34 years. Not only has it prevented AF but I have suffered no memory loss at all. I worked in a greengrocers when at school and now, age 69, I can still do all the calculations in my head in lb and oz and L.s.d. (old money) to work out the change from a 10 shilling note for a basket of fruit and veg.
