Hello , just been told I’m going to be prescribed something ( not beta blockers) to make my heart rate under 60 then I’ll have an ECG to check , after that I’ll have a procedure of which I forgot the name to check my circulation for any narrowing etc

Has anyone had this done and I wondered what happened ,,please don’t scare me to death I’m bad enough on my own , I’m just nervous about this lowering thing as most nights I’m well under 60 as is ……

Don't worry Hazel - you'll be fine sweetheat. I could be wrong but it might be Vasoconstriction .

Now lets get postive here. Your heart rate is 60's - just perfect. There are ways to treat arteries - don't worry. You and your medics know there might be a problem and it will / can be sorted. Stop worrying (easy to say) but stop panicing - there's no need.

You'll be fine.

Best,

Paul

Thanks Paul , I’m the one that’s great under pressure until it comes to me 😂

Sounds like they are talking angiogram where they inject a contrast liquid and take pictures of the cardiac arteries to check for any narrowing or blockages. No major problems and nothing to worry about BUT a word of warning. When they inject the die you get a strange warm feeling like you peed yourself. You haven't so dont worry .

I've had two over the last thirty years, the first through the right groin and the last (2017) through my right wrist. If anything the latter was least pleasant but that may well have been down to the slightly grumpy doctor who was obviously having a bad day.

It may well be a CT angiogram that you are having, which is non invasive. I have had two and as my heart rate is normally 65 ish I didn’t take the prescribed medication, I just took an extra 1.25mg of Bisoprolol on the morning of the procedure, which I was on at the time and my heart rate was perfect. The second time, I did the same but the nurse mucked up the cannula and said I had difficult veins. No way are my veins difficult, quite the opposite. I was annoyed at his incompetence so my heart rate increased. I still had the scan but the images were a little blurred. They can give you something through the cannula to slow your heart rate down, but I refused it, because I live on my own.

With this procedure, you get the same dye injected that Bob mentioned.

I had a CT angiogram and was very anxious before, however there was nothing to worry about. My heart rate was all over the place and I was just given something via the cannula to calm it down. All over in no time,

Mine goes down to 43 at night with the beta blockers! I’m also waiting for aCTCA scan to look at the arteries!

Blooming heck , although all the doctors and nurses at cardiology I have spoken to are so used to the procedures and all the symptoms they are not phased by low heart beats etc etc but to us it’s pretty scary, my cardio ecg thingy I was advised to buy and send my doc the bad ones looks like I’ve stuck my finger in an electric socket !

Yeah mine does that, but as you say, docs aren’t phased by it, rather that than nearly 200 hb before tabs!

Hi, can I ask why you're having this procedure? I asked for it a couple of years since (I've a history of cardiac arrest and stroke) but was told it wasn't needed.

Hi , I’ve got a very irregular heart beat , double beats and lots of weird times where it can go up to 160 for hours and the be fine for a month , been told I’ve probably got an angina but every one I see has a different opinion, the last one said they want me to have this procedure

Hi Hazel I’m having this procedure on Thursday and I’m really worried about having my heart rate lowered l have been told l need to be at the hospital an hour before my procedure. I had a blood test a couple of weeks ago to check that my kidneys are ok before l have the dye. I will let you know how l get on (unless your procedure is before mine). Fingers crossed both our arteries are fine. I’m 70 years old.

I get ectopics and have had various ECGs and holter monitors fitted I’m hoping this is the last test for a while, l actually feel ok apart from the blessed ectopics. I’m taking 2.5 bisoprolol at the moment.
