PIP medication for Afib

I am due a telephone chat with the cardiologist next week.

I use flecanaide and bisopropol as PIP for atrial fibrillation, Does anyone use nebivolol instead of bisopropol and how do they find it. I read somewhere that nebivolol does not deplete your energy as much as bisopropol and I was wondering whether it would suit me better as I am a very active over 70 year old.

Whilst flecainde is useful as PIP beta blockers are less commonly thus used and nebivolol not to my knowledge.

I have no personal experience of taking nebivolol but I have heard the same comments many times. Hopefully someone who takes it will soon advise you.

I am not qualifed to give medicial advice. I can though speak from how I found things.

Flec as a PIP was spot on. Bisopropol up to 2.5mg was ok. If I could go back (hindsite is great) I would take 100 mg of flec and 1.25 bis as a PIP.

As stated I am not a doctor. That's just I what I would have done (looking back) - I certainly don't think you should do this without talking your medic first.

Good day to you. I use Nebivolol and I can attest to the difference in mood and energy although I was on Metropolol prior. For me Nebivolol works just as well and I feel much better.

I have a question for you. My cardiologist prescribed me flecanaide daily back in the summer because I had some bad arrhythmia during a holter monitor. I couldn’t take it because every time I did it created arrhythmias. How does it work as a PIP for you? I have since seen an EP and he suggested I use it as a PIP. Have t used it quite yet as I am a bit scared based on my reaction to the daily dose when I was not in AF.

Thank you Poochman.

I have vagal paroxysmal a-fib mainly arising from food allergies and occasional acid reflux,

I have used flecanaide for about 10 years as a PIP and latterly Bisopropol 1.25mg also as a PIP, though I don't use Bisopropol if my heart rate is not fast i.e just missing beats and also if my BP is not high.

I have had 4 hospital stays in 13 years and more recently an episode where I was not in sinus for 5 days but I am sticking with the PIP as it usually works very well for me. It can bring the heart back into sinus rhythm in 1.5 -3 hours, though more recently it is taking longer. This is why I requested another consultant appointment as I feel after 6 years I should get my heart checked out. This is because you should essentially have a good sound heart if you take flecanaide.

I have no other co-morbidities, have lots of energy when not 'blipping'.

We are all different though. I can only comment on my own experience and I am still reluctant to go on permanent medication.

I hope this helps.

Thank you so much. Very helpful information. I believe my AFib is similarly caused by the same things as acid reflux often causes me ectopics. I have Lyme disease and Babesiosis and they are both notorious for heart problems such as this.

I changed from Bisoprolol to Nebivolol about 2 years ago. These are taken daily. Since the change, I have felt much better. Bisoprolol made me so tired and breathless.

Having said that, I do have a pack of Bisoprolol to use as a PIP, if my heart rate is fast during an AF episode. I don’t always need it, but find it works much better at slowing my heart down than Nebivolol. This was on the advice of my cardiologist, who said that Nebivolol is no good as a PIP.

Just taking one dose of Bisoprolol as a PIP does not cause me any tiredness.

Thank you. That is good advice as I agree just taking Bisopropol as a PIP doesn't cause me to be tired.
