Had leg cramps during the night last summer. I was in paroxysmal a fib last fall probable vagal at 11:30 at night 3 cardioversions many lifestyle changes. Normal heart function negative stress test no sleep apnea normal thyroid. On 12.5 metoprolol daily and 50mg flecainide twice daily used pip the past few months as needed maybe once every couple weeks. Now in atrial flutter can no longer tell I’m in it other than I can’t go up steps or walk brisk without shortness of breath. Going for another cardioversion. Did the flecainide pip cause the flutter ? If I would have had an ablation would this have happened anyway with it being from the right atrium vs the left atrium? Now on metoprolol 25 mg with resting heart rate upper 40s . any thoughts?

A fib now a flutter
Flecainde can introduce other arrhythmias but it would be difficult to say with any certainty. It is not uncommon for arrhythmias to change in any case.
Hi Spud
I had them the other way round and had a successful ablation for AFl but now have very occasional AF with, much more often, mild tachycardia and ectopic beats. My cardiologist said that AFl and AF often co-exist and can hide each other. He also said that Afl was more difficult to treat than AF medically, but easier surgically (i.e. the area is in the right, not left, atrium).
From what I have read, it doesn't seem that one causes the other. More likely is that whatever is leading the atrial cells becoming arrhythmogenic is the issue. In my case, my doctor had no idea why.

Just when a person thinks they might be able to correct it something else happens I thought my a fib was vagal consistent at night adjusted the eating and slowed down before bed and now I have a flutter. Did a magnesium rbc test to tune upMy magnesium. Still trying things
