Pacemaker replacement?

My latest Pacemaker check showed my battery level at 50% - so around 3 years before it needs replacing; as I put my new phone on its contact charger I was inspired to wonder whether anyone had thought of inductive charging to obviate replacement of my pacemaker every 7-10 years....

Of course I soon found out that the technology has been around and even patented for nearly 10 years .....so my question is - why not? what's the problem?.....

What a great idea. I suspect they are already working on that development.

Samsung patented this in 2013 -2014 so it is hard to believe that problems have not been identified and / or solved - see this from 2018....

Quite possible they don't use that type of battery. Even if so, maybe proximeter charging would put un-wanted EMF into an already compromised heart.

A fair amount of heat is generated during wireless charging - maybe that's why?

I asked my pacemaker clinician that very same question. The answer, according to her, was replacement pacemakers are big bucks for the companies manufacturing them. It's not in their interest to have self-charging devices. Whether there's truth in that, who knows!
