We’ve all done it, not the end of the world, much better to miss a dose rather than double up. If I miss by a few hours I tend to take it later and then push back the time I take my second dose, then go back to normal schedule following day. If you missed by more than 4 hours then I take my second dose a little earlier and follow normal schedule following day.

I do it regularly, maybe once a fortnight. Personally not had a problem.

You miss on purpose? And your reason why.

in reply to 3040jane

Oh no, I miss because I forget. Just an age thing 😀

Not sure if you are using a mobile phone but on a normal computer there is a place on the right of the screen just under the Admin team details.

A ccording to my cardio Apixaban has a half life of 36 to 48 hours so missing one should not be a problem

Your cardio is sadly mistaken. The half life of apixaban is 12 hours, so missing a dose is a problem. See: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

That's interesting. When I see him again I'll try and find out why he said that unless he meant protection overall. Who knows!

I've done the same. What to do is stated in the packaging leaflet of every medicine! Don't double up and don't worry, in short.

"2.2 Missed Dose

If a dose of ELIQUIS is not taken at the scheduled time, the dose should be taken as

soon as possible on the same day and twice-daily administration should be resumed.

The dose should not be doubled to make up for a missed dose."

If you miss a dose and it’s still 6/8 hours until your next dose they recommend you still take it if it is less than that till your next dose the consensus is that you miss it and take your next dose as normal hope this helps xx

The only time that might be a problem is on the run up prior to an ablation. For some reason I don't understand, they tell you not to miss ANY doses in the last few weeks prior to the procedure, or else the procedure may be cancelled. I think it's something to do with the possibility of blood clots hanging around in the heart before they start messing with it.

Anyhow, if you are not scheduled for that (yet?) it really is no big problem. After all, the anticoagulant is a precautionary measure to lower the risk of clots and lots of people have AF without knowing it and are walking around not anti-coagulated. They do have a five times higher chance of stroke than others, but missing one dose won't effect your risk by very much at all.

I’ve done this a couple of times and if I remember within 3 hours or so still take it and push my next one back an hour and a half then back to normal .If it’s much later than that I miss it completely.

I’ve set a permanent alarm on my phone and Apple Watch now for twice a day 12 hrs apart because I know how I portant it is to have balanced cover .
