Review after 4weeks OFF bisoprolol

Well, I saw my gp this morning and we both agreed I need some sort of blood pressure medication. I asked for bendrfuromethiside(or however it’s spelt 🤣) as my normal bp outside of af episodes was fine, and I got no awful side effects (no peeing for England either!) but he wasn’t happy with that because of its diuretic effects. So he has started me on amlodipine on the lowest dose….. review in 4 weeks. I react to stuff, I need the least intrusive medication….. I have been reading people’s reaction to this med and side effects seem to trigger all the issues I have come off beta blockers to resolve 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 He Ho, let’s see what happens. I definitely need some sort of blood pressure control. I see this is a calcium channel blocker, and I have no idea how this works yet! By the way, I feel tons better off bisoprolol. 🥰

HiIf you can't tolerate the calcium blocker, ask for Losartan. It suits me very well.

Best wishes

I too had nasty experience with bisoprolol plus. Horrible. Much better since medication reassessed. I take digoxin, sotolol and ramapril. I persevered again with severe bloating, breathlessness etc however six months on and my body has adjusted and controls arrythmia and bp quite well, also have pacemaker, No other symptoms other than fatigue - more than I like - following activities (having been involved in sport) but even this I hope should improve . I wish you well.

Thank you. I will be starting bendroflumethiazde in the morning. I was fine on it before. It appears I react to the starch in the medications, specifically if it’s potato starch based (which manufacturers don’t specify) 😱😂🥰

That is very interesting to hear. I wish you all the best.

Morning Mr Woo, Specifically potato starch, although manufacturers don’t usually show the source of the starch, so could be from potato corn or wheat!

I went onto bendroflumethiazide for a while, as I had that in the past and didn’t react to it. But my blood pressure was creeping up ( that was the reason for bisoprolol originally, to manage my bp) and I was getting more frequent af epsodes and I had one where a paramedic friend strongly recommended i went straight to a & e. Outcome of that visit was prescription of a pip (verapamil) a subsequent gp visit reassessed my meds cos I was getting more frequents episodes , and I changed to nebivolol. So overall, yes, I felt a lot better being off bisoprolol. My meds are now - nebivolol and rivaroxaban daily with verapamil as a pip if needed. Af episodes are a lot less frequent now and when it does happen, it doesn’t go anywhere near as high. The difference from when I was on biso is quite profound in my opinion.

morning, if I recall, within 24/48 hours of stopping I went into af, as a result of that I took 1 x biso straight away and it calmed down. I think, but am not sure, I may have taken half a tablet for a week. I was lucky, I didn’t have withdrawal symptoms, and I was only on a low dose anyway, 1.25mg. How long before I felt better being off it? Slowly started to improve within the month, if I recall correctly. Hope that helps.
