I am still in persistent AF, after a failed cardioversion 2 weeks ago, another booked for 16th Nov, idea being the Flecainide might help to hold it this time.
Have missed this morning's dose in the hope that maybe for me this was too high a dose. Just read it has a 48hr half life.
Any thoughts / experiences please, very welcome ?
How much is the HR raised? Generally you shouldn’t change your meds without medical advice. If Flecainide causes high HR it can be flutter so you should get advice.
Yes thanks Buffafly, I am doing it under the hospital supervision. I also have a loop recorder, that sends info to them. They just called me back and said it is not too concerning their end. I have been going by my Garmin watch which they say isn't as accurate when in AF, though it hasn't done this before
Just took a low dose 50mg Flecainide again on their reassurance. Phone call with nurse specialist tomorrow and Consultant Thursday.
Hi I took 300m of flecainide a day for at least 10 year + 10m of bisoprolol and suffered regular af and the odd mini blackout .After having a holter for 7 days my cardiologist has recommended a pacemaker (being fitted soon ) but stopped my flecainide in one go at the end of July and halfed the bisoprolol and to be honest with you I feel better than I have for months still get flutters but heartrate has gone up from average 45/50 to mid sixtys and I've had no blackouts I'm just waiting for pacemaker been cancelled twice .
Thats interesting July. Gosh it is so confusing with so many different approaches for everyone. I am in persistent now and I am concerned my HR has gone up on the up since being in Flecainide. Mine when not in AF is 55.
10 years is a long time. I am very keen to get another ablation and be done with it all...
Yes it was 10year plus I went into hospital for a day to take the first one and started on 100m for few weeks then double d up 200m after went to 300 m I've been on beterblockers for 32 years flecainide being the thred type I've taken they worked well for years then about 2 years ago I started mini blackouts I did not tell anyone. Then 6 month ago I had one whilst walking with the wife she told the doctor hopefully they are now sorting me out so it makes you wander to my pill s body got used to them made me worse not better.
Did it steady your heart though into NSR ?
It worked fine for years I still had af now and again.
I am back in persistent. Wonder if I may have increased the dose too quickly, supported by the arrhythmia nurse. I have slowed it down again now.
I just want to get back to normal!!

Has anyone had a convergent procedure on their heart? I understand it is a surgical ablation in which there will be a catheter ablation too
