Anybody familiar with Tikosyn?

I've never seen this mentioned here. I talked with an old friend in the USA this week. She said she had AFIB with side effects for a whole week, made her feel like heck. She went to the Cardiologist and he gave her Tikosyn. The AFib stopped right away and didn't come back. She was so happy and is continuing with regular treatments of this drug - -- but the catch is that it's very expensive. Anybody had any experience with this? rxlist.com/tikosyn-drug.htm

I have been taking Tikosyn for 3+ years now. I was in Afib which caused severe Congestive Heart Failure. For me it is a miracle drug. I have been in NSR ever since starting it and my CHF has totally resolved. I have not experienced any side effects. You do have to be hospitalized for 3 days while they begin treatment so your Q-T interval can be monitored and to make sure you don't develop any Ventricular arrhythmias. There are no long term effects such as with Amioderone. If this drug is available in Canada, you should discuss it with your cardiologist or EP I can't recommend it more highly. As for cost, it is cheaper than Eliquis ( not saying much 😉).

Best of luck, etheral

Hi Goldey, tikosyn or dofetilide is NOT approved for use in Canada at this time (sadly - start pestering your MP/MLA). Drug requires 3 day hospital stay due to dosing and possible proarryhthmic effects and then maintenance dosing if you do well on meds.

I take it twice a day with no side effects and it seems to work well, but is very expensive.

In U.S., have been taking Tikosyn for six years, twice per day. Seems to have helped (already had 3 ablations); can't prove it isn't helping so hard to know. Do have them monitor with EKG for the QT interval, though.

Hello there, I never took Tikosyn. I decided in March 2021 to have the Wolf Mini Maze procedure in Houston, TX and have been in Sinus Rhythm ever sense. I no longer take any blood thinners and slowly getting off all heart rate and rhythm medications. Best decision I ever made and is life changing . God Bless you and hope whatever decision you make works best for you.

Hi, I’m in the US and have been on tikosyn since early August. The lowest dose. Hate to say it, but I’m not happy w this med. I feel tired much of the time, though it doesn’t stop me from getting through the day, exercising, etc. It also makes me dizzy and headachey too. And still get tachycardia events, though they don’t last very long. Cardiologist has used it w lots of patients and was really surprised, guess I was his first patient that didn’t tolerate it well. Will be looking for other options when I see him in a month.
