Tachycardia after AF. Has this happened to anyone?

I have paroxysmal AF with no known cause except obesity. I went into fast AF today- 130 bpm, went to A and E, given IV flecainide and instead of converting to SR at 60bpm which is my usual, I converted at 115 bpm and stayed that way for about an hour before going back to AF at 130 again. Have now been admitted to the cardiology ward. Only the nurses saw the tachycardia not the Dr - I’m very confused as to why this has happened and what it might mean. Thanks

You could have gone in to A/flutter before reverting back to AFib maybe ? I've had things like this happen to me during my very long AF history and IV flec would not restore sinus rhythm. You are in the best place now for treatment. Possibly dccv if this persists ?

Yes I had a lot of tachycardia both prior to AF and following it, often for days. It usually resolved itself and I was able to function until it went over 150 when all I could do was rest.

It is very common to have more than one type of arrythmia - all with similar causes. You will be monitored on the ward so the doctors will be able to follow what is happening even if they are not physically there and work out a treatment plan for you.

Hope you feel better very soon.

Yes that happens to me every time. I always imagine that it is my medication( sotalol) kicking in and gradually trying to organise the beats. I usually go into normal rhythm after about an hour but a few times I have been stuck in act for 48 hours. I am awaiting a pace and ablate procedure. X

Well, I have flutter and atrial fib. I have been on flecainide since I left hospital after last ablation, because the ablation did not work. I have not had a flare up of afib since 2015. I thI thank the Dr. and God for putting me on flecainide. It is like a miracle drug for me.
