About 1 month ago, I found your forum. That put an end to my afib episodes getting more frequent. I got the book the Afib cure. I changed my diet, I not only sleep better, my frequent trips to the bathroom (following colon cancer 8 years ago,) stopped! I am 57 years old, very active with a 40 resting heart rate. I am on sotalol twice a day and light aspirin once a day. Since my syncope 6 months ago, I have a pacemaker/defibrilator. Can I get off meds progressively?
Has any sustained vtach/cardiac arres... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Has any sustained vtach/cardiac arrest survivor successful at getting off meds?
This is wonderful to hear! I'd be discussing this progress and your question with a medical professional to see how viable it is to reduce medication.
I have had medications changed several times over 3 1/2 years. I take a lot more than you now but have not really gone off any medication without it being replaced by another. Just follow Drs orders. Wish you well!
Thank you for your kind words! I also take the minimum sotalol, because too much sotalol was making me dizzy. I will talk to my EP nurse and eventually my EP. I just don't know anyone with a similar condition who went off meds.. I am thankful to the medical professionals for having saved my life. However their advice to keep the same lifestyle as before was sending me back to rapid afib...
Just finished the book. Like you had cancer (small intestine neuroendocrine tumour), plus extra challenge with mitral valve stenosis. Dx with paroxysmal aFIB after fainting twice following a year of dizziness. Tried Sotalol but too debilitating so switched to Bisoprolol . My EP doesn’t appear to want to help me re: cure as he dismissed biomarker monitoring. However because I also have gut issues my gastroenterologist has agreed to help which got my general practitioner on board. I’m now taking 1g x magnesium daily. All the biomarkers in the book will be monitored, I have a good diet already and wasn’t overweight but need to exercise more as stopped while it took them a year to work out I had aFIB (suffered exercise intolerance causing syncope). I’m doing zoom meditation and I live near nature but the neighbours from hell causing me stress. I am considering selling up! My plan is to stop this progressing to persistent aFIB. Good luck. We can do this!
Thank you for your reply! We sure have a lot in common... Gut issues seem to have a large influence on our heart health. About a month ago, while on vacation at the beach, my afib episodes were getting worse and worse. I had pizza and icecream almost every day! Looking back, my afib episodes occurred the days I ate pizza. I am not overweight, always thought I had a relatively healthy diet. The book was an eye opener, I now eat more vegetables, fruits and an abundance of nuts. Almost no more afib this last month, just about 3% mostly at night according to the box that reads my pacemaker at night. And I lost about 10 pounds. I am also more and more active, pretty much like before my syncops. For your neighbor, meditation is great. I find some relief with Nhat Hanh, a budhist monk. Keep me posted!
