At about 2100 , after a day when the heart was completely calm, I ate two large handfuls of almonds. After about an hour I started to get ectopic beats and some mild pressure around the heart (which might or might not have been heartburn). The extopics and pressure continue at 0100 as I type this. I read that, as nuts are high in fat, they can cause heartburn, but have not experienced this before. I wondered if anyone had had similar symptoms after eating nuts?

Heartburn can cause afib due to the oesophagus running alongside the aorta almonds are packed with Magnesium could have affected electrical balance in your heart.
That’s interesting. It’s a possibility.
Hi,Not symptoms as you describe but almonds and walnuts don't agree with me so I avoid them. Salted cashews and peanuts are fine.
Are you certain you don't have a nut allergy. Some years ago the bus service I drove served a primary school which had been declared a 'nut free school'. No nuts or even traces of nuts were permitted.

A lot of nuts too late in the evening are probably a digestion issue which unsettles the heart via the Vagus Nerve.
I’m fairly sure I don’t have a nut allergy as I’ve eaten lots of them since I had AF, but I suppose I could have developed one. I’ll try eating fewer nuts and a different type to see if that helps. This afternoon I have a 24 holter test (not related to the nut issue).
I often crave nuts but when I eat a lot of them I get very tight chested and asthmatic. So have them only occasionally. It doesn’t effect my atrial fibrillation though.
Almonds are notoriously difficult to digest. I often have palpitations after eating them.
