Hi All, I am currently on 2.5 Bisoprolol due to ectopic beats (22k after a week wearing monitor) a few months ago. I just seem to feel worse on the tablets, tight heavy chest and palpitations still present. I feel ok in the morning and take the tablet at lunch time and shortly after my heart feels worse. I’ve recently had an MRI and waiting for results. Dr suggested increasing dose again after a 24hr check still showed 4K which was a 4% burden. I’m just under 9st and another consultant said I could only tolerate 2.5mg and I don’t want this weird feeling to be worse. I hate having this condition it consumes my day 🥴 does this ever get better? I’ve had a lot of stress over the last 3 years which is still ongoing. Any advice would be great, many thanks x
Bisoprolol dosage: Hi All, I am... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Bisoprolol dosage
The stress is part of the Ectopic equation but, I would ask to change the medication to Propranolol as less side effects. The Propranolol will relax you as well. Word of warning, come off of the Bisoprolol slowly otherwise you will be hyper and have trouble sleeping.....half the tablet then every other day over a week or so.
I couldn’t tolerate Bisoprolol and I know from this forum I’m not unusual. Post about Side effects of this drug and feeling worse on it must be in the top 3 subject matters!
Go back and see your doctor and ask for another treatment option but heed RichMert’s warning about reducing gradually. I had to stope overnight and it wasn’t pretty.
I could not tolerate any kind of beta blocker. Because of this I was given an anti arrhythmic. I would talk to your doctor. Prayers you feel better.
I couldn't tolerate bisoprolol or anything like it. It basically had no good effects on me and got worse as time on them went on I don't think I spent more than 6 weeks on any of this type of medication and bad side effects started on about the third week. Speak to your EP about changing to another medication and see if one works for you. It can get better. I have been very lucky but also had to be very proactive in getting to see a good cardiologist and EP and have had 3 successful CV's the last one lasted longer than a year but back in AF now - funnily enough went back in AF on the day - 7th April I had a telephone consultation with specialist nurse - not in AF when she rang but by the end of the day was. E mailed my EP's secretary and have a telephone consultation with him on Wednesday afternoon. I am waiting for an ablation - would have had it over a year ago but Covid got in the way. Then got a call in September when I was away at my sister's helping her move and help her get over the sudden death of her husband from gullet cancer so had to cancel. Got another call to go in in October and had negative Covid test just before but then cancelled because there was an outbreak of Covid in the cardiac unit! EP said he would contact me early this year but obviously they must be so busy now the waiting lists have probably tripled.
Good Luck and hope you start to feel better soon.
Have you tried a magnesium supplement to help with the ectopics? Some people find it makes a big difference.
I moved to nebrovolol as it improved my sleep only a little but I do feel better overall. I am complicated with multi conditions
I had lots of bisoprolol problems and am now off it as RichMert says if you stop it do cut down very gradually. Other things that helped with my ectopics were taking magnesium citrate daily (build up to around 400mg gradually to reduce abdominal cramps and urgent toilet calls!!!), stopping lanzoprazole as this prevents a lot of vitamins and minerals from being absorbed due to lessening stomach acid, and occassionally taking a pottasium tablet if arythmias/ectopics increase as Im on a diuretic which depletes pottassium.I'm guessing we are all different so its not one size fits all, but I hope some of the above is useful to you. Best of luck with controlling those lousey ectopics.
Just curious, you say at 9 stone 2.5mg is max recommended dose, didn't realise dosage was weight dependent, I'm on 5 mg bisoprolol with no adverse reaction but slowly losing weight, slowly slowly catchy monkey for me, maybe once I reach desired weight maybe reduce my dosage. I have noticed my HR dropping a little over the last few months
