5 months post (2nd) ablation ectopics and flickering heart.

I had my 2nd ablation for paroxsysmal AF in November. No major symptoms since until the last month, when I started to get lots of ectopics, particularly when exercising. This has never happened before- exercising used to seem to make me get less ectopics if anything. But the last few weeks I've been getting them when walking and moving around, and now I seem to be getting them at rest as well, on average every couple of minutes throughout the day (sometimes with lots in a few seconds and then nothing for 10 minutes). I'm getting increasingly concerned that I'm about to go into AF again, which is causing anxiety that is ruining my life.

Has anybody else had this 5 months post ablation? And am I right to be so worried!? My AF has historically come and gone in spells for a few days at a time, sometimes with up to a year in between episodes. I'm only 39.

Hi Upsilon16,

At 8 months post-ablation for Afib& Aflutter, I still get frequent random episodes of PACs. Had a few instances where the ectopics devolved into SVTs/AT, but loop recorder never picked up any AFib. The tachycardia felt very much like AFib, and without review by the Loop Recorder Clinic, I would have sworn the ablation was a failure!

Maybe the true blanking period is 6 months to a year....

Thanks. Just seems odd that I’ve suddenly started getting lots of ectopics after 4 months, which have got progressively worse for the last month. Especially as I was free of AF for 11 months before the ablation (it got delayed massively due to Covid). Feels unlikely it’s going to suddenly go normal again!

That does seem rather odd, but then again, having a history of heart palpitations redefines what passes as "normal"! I think the nature of the beast is that it is erratic, sporadic, and ofttimes unpredictable.

Probably worth a follow-up with your EP, if only to quell your anxiety. Believe me, we've all been there!

After my 3rd ablation ... I had continuous PVC's and other ectopic beats. They told me they were harmless and to ignore them. However, they were very uncomfortable. I did some research and found a common triple magnesium formula (took 300mg twice a day) that got rid of them. Very happy about that.

Now, I'm about 6 months out from my recent ablation. Exercised too heavy the 3rd week and had recurrent ectopic beats. Slowed it down a bit ... and they subsided.

Just wore a 2 week monitor. .02% ectopics with 2 instances of tachycardia ... longest one of 37 beats. EP nurse said they were common. Even she had some (she's quite young) when tested. Said some of their patients get hundreds of them a day ........ thousands. Said will keep an eye on mine with monitor test in 6 months.

Btw ... my earlier continuous ectopics felt like AFIB ... very jumpy in chest. But, the doctors said not to worry. Unlikely to devolve into AFIB. Try the magnesium .... you might get lucky.

What sort of magnesium do you take? There seem to be so many!
