I had a reaction to my first AZ jab several weeks ago. I became very hot and flushed and then had worrying palpitations for few hours after. Has anybody else had a similar reaction? My second jab is due in a few weeks time and I am quite worried about having another episode like last time.

Flu like symptoms seem to be a common effect of AZ and for some people also Pfizer. These usually last only a couple of days but much better that Covid. Any inflamation can initiate AF but most people had no problems . Hard luck being an unlucky one but there again a lot of people have no reaction with the second dose anyway. Urban legend says Pziser is tje other way round and second is worse.

I remember having to wear short sleeved shirt after BCG back along but better than the alternative.

Hello Bob. Your comment stating that “any inflammation can initiate AF” interests me greatly. I’ve not heard this before, would this include joint issues? Currently have a huge inflammation of my knee again - just wear and tear / overdoing it on old injuries etc. Could this & similar be potential triggers I’ve ignored whilst over scrutinising diet, mood, stress, shiftwork etc (to no avail as yet)? Two years+ into my AF diagnosis & this forum really does offer some excellent advice & information.

Cheers, Steve.

If he body is in distress then I think AF can be more likely. This includes stress, infection. exercise overload, lack of exercise, dehydration you name it it can do it.

Thanks Bob. Never thought of it that way, swollen joints just “the norm” for so long. Steve

Mine are never swollen. just xxxxing painful but pain counts. Just see what it does to BP

My AF started just after I damaged my Achilles tendon. Consultant did mention that it may have been a trigger as I hadn't had recent alcohol and I already drank decaff anyway.

Wow, that really does sound unfortunate. It’s something I’d just not figured out or heard of until now (to my mild embarrassment). It could make a lot of sense in my case but I don’t know for sure. Carrying a lot of old injuries I constantly aggravate & always in some pain of varying levels from sciatic nerve damage too, so inflammation & pain are just “the norm” for me. Unfortunately I’ve never kept a log of my injury flare ups. Will definitely keep a closer eye on that in the future though. Thanks for your reply.

Steve

It wasn't something I would have associated with heart issues either but came up in a discussion about what could have caused it to rear its ugly head. I ended up on crutches for 3 months and the AF started about 3 weeks in.

Exactly what Bob's already said, I had the pfizer and the first was OK the second a little different with some odd flu like symptoms, palpitations etc .My mother in law and a couple of people who had the Astra Zenica all seem have been the other way around, the first jab a little rough, flu like etc, the second shot no problems at all, apart from a sore arm.

Much the same as the flu vaccine, I don't get anything that worries me, a few palpitations etc, as it's an immune response that's expected I suppose I've come to accept that now with my sensitive ticker , but do know some who say its like actual flu for a couple of days to a week, with light or moderate feeling ill etc, so even a flu shot can be a little uncomfortable at best .

I wouldn't worry if first jab passed OK without anything over serious, it's not worth the risk not having full protection of a second shot then contracting Covid, or not benefitting from some protection the vaccines offer whatever the level , thus preventing hospitalisation or worse, see the figures, we appear to be the only place in Europe lowering our hospital numbers and deaths are being halved bi - weekly.

Even if it is a little rough, and if I need another booster which looks likely they are going to do, il still go for it rather than risk the other option which isn't so easy to ride out .

Hi, I'll list our family experiences currently. Myself and my wife had the first jab in late January the Phz one. Other than sore arms for a few days we had no reactions whatsoever. This week we had the second dose, my wife had no reactions at all but I have had some mild reactions such as feeling unwell, headaches and sickness. Lasted about 3 days and of course sore arms. Other elderly family members have had no reactions.

Our son had the AZ about 3 weeks ago and had no reactions whatsoever. But our daughter was quite ill for about 2 days, headaches, nausea, shivers, muscle and joint aches. Our son in-law was very ill with the same things only extremly bad including feeling he had the flu. This lasted 4 days. He does take Wafarin. Neice also takes wafarin. Same as son in law but even worse dialed 111 adviced if it get worse go to A&E. Her husband got the same things as our daughter. All have now recovered.

I'll add a second comment about the vaccine. I received in the post a request to take an antibody test from Bio Labs for reasearch. The results of the test which was 9 weeks after dose one Phz. was I had zero antibodies, this makes no sense to me I thought that was what the vaccines were for.

No issues for me but my wife had high temp for 2 days, controlled by paracetamol. Both of us looking forward to getting our second dose on May 17th. As I am sure the majority of side effects are better than Covid. I am 61 , wife 57. Both AZ VACCINE.
