I missed the earlier discussion on pip for anticoagulation too. I was advised 20 years ago to take warfarin but as my afib episodes are once twice a year I felt I was too young. I asked my GP last month if I could try Apixaban as PIP as I’ve had 3 episodes during lockdown all lasting 5/6 days - he said no - only on permanent basis.

You have a sensible GP.
I'm inclined to agree ! Afib lasting for 5 / 6 days could cause problems - personally I wouldn't hesitate to start on the Apixaban again permanently. It is of course a matter for you and your doctor to decide.
It's also possible you have had other afib episodes which you are not aware of (depends on how systematic you are).

HiAs far as I am aware you can't use anticoagulants as a PIP remedy as they need to be taken regularly to ensure a "steady state" level of anticoagulation. I would be guided by your GP as to whether you need to start taking Apixaban or one of the other DOAC's
I hope you stay safe and well
