Well I fell over a small fence yesterday and went down hard.mpatly on shoulder

Son and husband checked me over sat me up n called 111. They called back with Dr. Said can you move fingers etc. Said rest elevate Painkillers... if worse go to A and E .

Stuck it out until this a.m...struggled to get out of bed etc

Turns out broken shoulder..top of ball part of socket. Very painful and bruised hip and ribs black n blue.

But AF or flutter??nope. Not a twitch!!!

Dont understand but am grateful!!

Fracture clinic two weeks.

Hope you all have had a safer weekend??!

Oh dear...how awful for you! I can understand how terribly painful it must be. Do hope it will soon ease. Can you take some strong pain relief?

Strange isn't it when you most expect AF or its mates to make an appearance they don't show up !! I've been in such situations many times and come out unscathed and then find myself on other occasions go into a sustained fast ventricular rate when I've been quietly minding my own business....

wilsond profile image
wilsond in reply toJalia

Exactly! I was expecting the worst...was my body concentrating on the Shoulder..very odd.Thank you xx ...

I think there might be something in that , I notice that if I have a migraine or cold or as you say a fall I am not aware of my AF .

Same. Having a huge row with the other half once I was expecting to kick off - zilch.

Oh what an awful weekend Wilson, stunt professional added to the CV now. Glad the ticker hasn't acted up with the stress of it all that's one good thing . Take care and stop doing the stunt work 😉

Oooh no, bless you, so sorry to hear this. It's all so easily done isn't it? My younger sister fell over nothing (just tripped somehow) when power walking a few weeks ago and has broken her kneecap. Now has her leg in a brace. Are you in plaster or anything? Really feel for you and hope the pain soon eases off.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Jean

wilsond in reply tojeanjeannie50

Not in plaster a kind of brace affair. It certainly is an ouch..awkward as it hurts in different positions that I'm not expecting!Hated having to drag bra off in x-ray really hurt n then couldn't get it back on again!! Luckily I had my trusty fleece on which hid most of the chest area lol

Thanks Jean x

When I broke my wrist in Spain the hospital doctor had to cut my T-shirt and bra off. When the treatment was finished I was taken out to meet my husband with a cotton half-gown that had no ties at the back. Crowds of people who were not allowed to accompany partners etc because of covid were outside the entrance. I was beyond caring!

Oh, you poor soul - how miserable for you. It can be done so easily by a simple fall but other times a real rattle down does very little.

Have you got your shoulder immobilised or can it heal on its own? Strange how our hearts can behave when we expect problems - so good that all is quiet.

Get well soon and look after yourself. xx

wilsond profile image
wilsond in reply toFinvola

It's a kind of a brace not plaster but helps a lot . Didn't know what to do with myself..very painful yes.Taking it ultra easy now.

Thank you Finvola xx

Oh poor you, sounds horrendous. As you are anti coagulated your bruising will be probably be quite spectacular too. Do hope they have given you strong pain killers and that you can sleep tonight. Let your son and husband look after you and take things very easy x

wilsond in reply toirene75359

Sent me home without any !! But my sister in law had some tramadol which she brought down ..very glad of that as xrsy manoeuvres were v painful.Ringing dr tomorrow to see if I can get some more. Thank you xx

Auriculaire profile image
Auriculaire in reply towilsond

Tramadol is great- much better than Paracetamol. My leaving hospital prescription given by the surgeon included copious amounts of it even though the nurses had only doled out Paracetamol whilst I was there. You had to ask if you wanted anything stronger. I found one Tramadol in the morning lasted 10 hours even though the surgeon had put 3 a day on the prescription to be taken as well as the Paracetamol! Hope you start to recover soon. Shoulder pain is horrible. There are so many movements that involve the shoulders.

Oh no Wilson 😲 thank goodness you didn't have an episode of AF as well.

A fall really shakes you up when you are older and I think we experience a degree of shock .

I hope you are not in too much pain , get lots of rest and nice hot baths or showers and get better soon x

Desanthony profile image
Desanthony in reply towilsond

Yes it's awful. Took my Mum quite a while but she was over 80 - mind she had spent a few days not knowing she had done it. It was only when I visited at the weekend and called the GP out and then x ray at hospital late on a Saturday showed what she had done. Physio was great though - Mum had quite a good experience with the hospital and physio afterwards. All the best.

That is so unlucky Wilson and so painful. Did something similar a while back when I stepped back to let somebody past in the street and and fell backwarsd over a 2 ft low wall. Didn't break anything ( skiing taught me to fall well.) but hurt like hell. Worst thing was I dropped the Pizzas I just collected. lol

Take it easy and make sure you are well pampered.

wilsond profile image
wilsond in reply toBobD

Lol Bob!I was also annoyed as I dropped the nearly full tin of shed paint I was using.... splattered up the fence( different colour of course !) Meant to be a Grand Garden Tidy Up Weekend..was on way to make a brew for us all..huh!

Thank you x

Hi sorry to hear about your accident, I fell and broke my shoulder 4 years ago and know how you feel . In a similar situation sent home from hospital with no analgesia and had to get tramadol from a relative until I saw GP it will be a very slow process make sure you are referred for physio ASAP . Getting comfortable at night is the hardest thing try and sleep upright with a lot of pillows initially. Luckily for me it happened prior to AF . Take it easy for a while x

Poor you. It must be so painful. What makes it worse is that a shoulder cannot be completely immobilised in a cast. Pleased that the AF has behaved though. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Ouch, so sorry to hear this. Breaks can be very painful and then the mobility issues afterwards. Make sure you get some good physio to help get moving again. I recommend investing in a couple of Feldenkrais sessions if you can once discharged. I broke my wrist in two places three years ago and the 3 months physio wasn't anything like enough. Fingers crossed for good recovery.

I’ve fractured & dislocated my right shoulder twice - total sympathy for you. Sending you a ‘not so tight squeeze’ hug 🤗. When swimming pools get open - my best therapy was water gently keeping it moving.

Oh I really feel for you. Broke my shoulder on the ice early in the year and know just how painful it is. My AF didn’t start up either, was very surprised. Take care and take it easy. It takes a long time, but will feel much more bearable in a couple of weeks.

No! Definitely not. Made me feel unbalanced for a while, but 3 months on, it’s much improved, still hurts sometimes, but nothing like at first. Good luck, and let your other half get on with the work lol.

Hope you have a quick recovery. I often wish the tachycardia did appear with stress but instead usually when sitting about relaxing. When i take an episode, if i am with somebody, they usually will say sit down, relax which usually makes it worse. The only people who understand are members of this group. Take care Linda
