Dear all

Not been on for a while as I am always anxious about talking myself into a bout of paf. I had my ablation 9 months ago and have been good and off the Apixiban 1 month ago. But !! The last few days I have been getting small bouts of palpitations and am getting concerned that the paf is coming back. I have read about pv reconnecting.

Any words of advice please.

Just in case you better get back on the anticoagulant Rod. It may be nothing but better safe than sorry. Most of us stay on anticoagulation for life.

If things start to get bad best speak to your EP about a holter monitor to see what is going on but try not to get too focussed on it. You had one ablation so another is a breeze but lets not get too far ahead. .

Thanks Bob

Is it okay just to start the anti coagulation now?

So disappointed!

Is this quite normal?

Why not but tell your doctor. Not uncommn to need a follow up Rod. Cryo ablation has limitation but does take less time so usually first attempt.

Thanks Bob. Taken your advice and back on the apixiban. I will tell the gp tomorrow and have e mailed my ep.

i hope not to need another but we shall see.

Could I ask is cryo not as effective as RF ?

This is something I did for someone a while ago which might help.

“In terms of safest I don’t think there is much difference. As far as best is concerned, it depends on individual circumstances. The general thinking is that the rogue impulses which cause AF are mainly created around the 4 pulmonary veins. An expanding balloon is used to freeze and scar the tissue around the veins thereby stopping the impulses. It is generally a much quicker process than burning the tissue with the tip of a catheter, so some might say it is slightly safer. Very often, a Cryoablation (freeze) is carried out under sedation whereas with a Radio Frequency (RF) ablation, a general anaesthetic is used.

With a Cryoablation, if there are any irregularities around the pulmonary veins, the balloon might not make contact with all of the tissue, therefore a second RF ablation is needed to touch up any missed bits but that is generally a much quicker procedure than having it all done that way. It is therefore very common to have a Cryoablation first. Hope this helps.....”

Reference the palpitations, some people speak favourably about magnesium supplements, take a look at Dr Sanjay Gupta’s, York Hospital, Magnesium on YouTube.

Thank you.

It was all going so well and I was hoping that we had cracked it😞

No af for 9 months. Maybe these short runs of ectopics are a blip I do hope so.

Interesting what you say about the rf ablation as a top up .

The people you have advised before did they mostly have to have a second ablation?

I always turn to this site when I need you😊😊

Can’t recommend you enough and I collect for the AFA

All I can say is it’s not unusual to need a second, touch up RF ablation, it happened to me. After the cryoablation I was told that there was a problem sealing off one of my pulmonary veins. As BobD said, I think it’s too soon to worry about it yet......

Are you okay now?

My first AFIB ablation failed after 9 months. Did not get ectopic beats. Just had the familiar AFIB return while walking at lunch.

EP's know that it often takes 2 ablations to get success. However, some people are lucky and get many years on first one.

My second ablation (which I got immediately) gave me 10 years of calm and normalcy. The first one is never wasted; they just have to go a little further during the second one and build upon the foundation established in the first ablation.

Good Luck! to you . . . .

My cryoablation lasted 14 months at which time I got atypical flutter. A radiofrequency ablation was done and have been good for 18 months so far. EP said I am a complicated case.

Cookie

Thank you I hope all is well.

Can you tell me what atrial flutter feels like. I am getting a sensation like ectopics? Feels like I am going to get Af but it doesn’t? Really disappointed!!

CookieWhat did flutter feel like?

Rod, I think I felt worse in flutter than afib. I could carry on my day better with afib. Flutter would really wipe me out with a high heart rate that would not let up. I would lay around all day. Jill
