Its a date 😏: Hi, The phone call i... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Its a date 😏
I've had 4. At age 67 ... just had 4th this past OCT 23. They're not bad at all. Much better than the 3 I had 10 years ago (even those weren't that bad). Some people might say a trip to Dentist is worse.
Just relax ...... You go in in the morning. You're put to sleep. Procedure takes 2 to 4 hours. You awake feeling pretty good (although if first time under general anesthesia, you might have some minor nausea ... headache. I did on my 2nd one, but not after the others).
If you got new collagen plugs in groin veins, then you will be mobile and walking almost right away. If they did the 'old fashioned' vein puncture, you'll have to lay still for 6 to 8 hours. Then, you'll be encouraged to walk the hallway.
You'll have a restful overnight for observation ... a breakfast in the morning ... then, home for dinner. You will feel tired for a week, or so. There will be a few skipped beats ... rapid fire beats ... possibly a short episode or two of AFIB. All normal while ablated heart heals, which can take up to 90 days or more.
I always get a sleeping night time fever that spiked to 102 on this last one (soaked bed sheets I remember during older ablations). That is normal, too. Fever gone by morning .... and back to normal.
After a week ... you're probably cleared for work and full physical activity. Good Luck! with your recovery .........
Thanks, i believe i am having a local anaesthetic so hoping recovery time will not be has long , relax is the key but easier said than done 😁. Thank you for reply.
You will probably have some sedation, not just a local anaesthetic as the EP needs you to keep still on the table. I slept through most of both procedures but have some hazy memories of some parts and do remember several conversations. Some people or EPs and/or patients prefer GA, which takes much longer to recover from but I was eating my dinner 40 mins after returning to the ward after sedation feeling good.

I think your feelings are quite usual. The few days prior to both my ablations I had conjured up all sorts of reasons and symptoms why I couldn’t possibly go through with the procedure from my AF had gone so I didn’t need it to conjuring up real symptoms. On the morning of the 1st ablation I awoke with a very sore throat, runny nose and headache and convinced myself the hospital wouldn’t go ahead but my son and husband talked me through it and convinced me that at least go to the hospital. By the time we arrived most of the symptoms had gone but straight for nose and throat swab and all came back clear - all psychosomatic!
Hope it goes well and spend the w/e preparing as if you were away on holiday so you can spend the next few weeks or so recovering.n
Best wishes CD
There you go........all the best

Mine in November was fine. Cryo ablation, local anaesthetic and mild sedation, 2-3 hours lying flat then home. Felt a bit tired for a week, and a bit the second week, some tightness in the chest and some ectopic stuff but all good and no AF since... good luck
Thanks for reply much appreciated. Hope you continue to feel better 🙏
All the best.
