Z pack and A Fib

Recently prescribed a z pack for sinus issues . Does Z pack tend to cause an episode of A Fib ? I already tried doxycycline but didn’t really do much. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. My sinuses are making me crazy .

I don’t know what Z pack is but from what I can gather it’s an antibiotic. I avoid any antibiotics unless it’s life threatening. How do you know it’s a microbrial? Have you been tested?

I have suffered from sinus blockage and swimming pool ears for over a year now following a viral infection which left me with nasal drip and congestion. I find relief from using a nasal rinse x 2 daily, I use the Neilmed bottle and ready mixed sachets, recommended by GP, specific breathing exercises such as those taught by a Buteyko therapist such as Patrick McKeown - check him out on YouTube and a steroid nasal spray to reduce inflammation as prescribed by my GP - which seems to have been the most helpful although the nasal rinses really help.

Thank you for all of the suggestions . Z Pak is an antibiotic. Usually when the pollen gets high around Feb and March I am prone for sinus infections. I also have asthma . I do use Flonase everyday and now I have been prescribed montelukast which is a leukotriene receptor antagonists . It works by blocking the action of substances in the body that causes symtoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis . If I don’t get a handle on it quickly I will have an asthma flare up. I have used Neil med sinus rinse in the past and has helped some. The breathing exercises do look very interesting thank you for sharing . I also get a fib once in awhile so I do try to hold of on antibiotics but sometimes it’s the only thing that works . Thank you again . Be well .

I had sinus problems. Went to an ENT Doctor. He said he never prescribes antibiotics for sinus issues unless it's absolutely necessary.

In my opinion (and documentation bears this out), antibiotics are not the benign medicine we were led to believe. It wreaks all kind of havoc in the body ... and can lead to unhealthful outcomes and negative side effects.

They make all kind of supplement nose sprays of colloidal silver ...... olive leaf extract ..... and salt water (which my ENT liked). Any one of these would be preferential to antibiotics. Give one of those a try and see what happens.

I believe that z pack is azithromycin based . If so it can cause arrythmias as a side effect. I had successful treatment for chronic sinusitis 30 years ago. Acupuncture. It has never returned . Whatever you do , do not take a Fluoroquinolone antibiotic. They are no longer recommended for sinusitis and the side effects can ruin your health sometimes for many years.

Thank you . At the end of June I experienced a tremendous sinus infection and was put on levaquin (Fluoronquinolone ) . It turned out to be covid . I do honestly feel that the levaquin prevented the covid pneumonia but after a month out I ended up with a pinched nerve which also affected my shoulder tendons and I was months in pain which I believe was caused by levaquin . This time around my dr suggested levaquin again but I refused and because the only option was z Pak . I am allergic to penecillin . I will research the acupuncture who knows maybe it will work . From Jan to April I suffer with rhinitis and allergies and I already use Flonase so I am open to any suggestions . Thank you again . Be safe !

Having experienced a reaction to an FQ antibiotic especially with tendon problems it would be unwise to ever take one again. The next reaction is always worse. Many people have ended up crippled, in wheelchairs by not heeding milder reactions and taking another course. Docs usually deny the damage is due to the antibiotic. The FDA said in 2015 that FQs should not be given for sinusitis. The EMA said the same in 2018. Obviously some docs have not got the message. Sueing them is probably the answer!
