Stopping Propafenone

I have been in sinus rhythm close to nineteen months. During that time, my Propafenone dose was reduced from 300mg x 2, to ,in the morning, 150mg and 300mg at night, and presently to 150mg x 2. I believe Propafenone may be affecting my kidneys. Plus, I am stable in sinus and ready to stop.

Does anyone have any experience in stopping Propafenone other than cold turkey? My internist suggesting taking the 150mg once a day. But this drug is supposed to be taken twice a day; what about the other portion of the day?

I am just wondering what advice others were given.

I was on higher still dose at one time and gradualy reduced to 150 a day and then 150 every other day. There is a lot of residual affect. I did this over about a month. Never heard of propafanone affecting kidneys though. I now taking it as PIP with approval of my EP.

That's interesting, every other day for a month. My intention is to stop it, and like you, take it as a PIP with the approval of my EP, but my dilemma is that I am between France and Canada.

Oh, I read your post again. 150mg a day first is similar to what the internist suggested. To make up one month, that would be like two weeks at 150mg a day and two weeks of 150mg every other day. I am assuming your tablets were 150mg minimum dose. Thanks for replying.

Hi BobD Can you tell me ( I know we are different) how long do they take to work as PIP ? Also how many do you take till it goes?

Had to have electric Zap to bring me back to sinus.

So taken off Flecanide and given Propafenone but not needed yet. But waiting.
