Rivaroxaban ( Xarelto ) ....when was this first being prescribed in the UK?

Rivaroxaban

I am convinced that I was prescribed Rivaroxaban over 4 years ago prior to my Catheter Abalation procedure. I'm now today back on it again ... Xarelto ....and when I stated to my new GP that I had taken before and it affected my joints ( pain ) he said never, it's a new drug and has only been out a year. I'm sure Rivaroxaban has been out for a fair few years ....can anyone confirm this or am I mistaken ? Many thanks Julian

I have been taking rivaoxaban for seven years possibly closer to eight years. I was told to take an anticoagulant when i reached sixty five and was started on rivaoxaban that same year. I am now seventy three.

I seem to remember it has been around recommended for af in 2012.

I started taking rivaroxaban in 2011 authorised my my cardiologist and I was the first in my DRs surgery. The dr had to ring the hospital to tell us about how to transfer from warfarin to it

Thanks for the info and confirmation.

Thank you. I was sure on was on it but he was positive it had only been out a year or so. No harm done ( I'll discuss with home soon ) but having had AF for many years the you really get to know your meds, symptoms and all things associated with the condition.

Obviously only new to your GP. I couldn’t tell you exactly Meadfoot says taken it for 7 years - least that!

Yeah spot on.It wasn't my regular doc not that it should make any difference. I'll discuss with him soon now that I have plenty of confirmation. May even have my original notes on the PC ?cheers

You need a better doctor. I know where I was when it came out and it must be at least nine if not ten years ago.

Not a new drug, took it for about a week back in 2016 didn’t agree with me , I was then prescribed Apixaban.

Cheers, thought so. It gave me joint pain so I'll need to discuss with my GP. Appreciate your reply.

I was put on this about nine years ago and I got joint pain and nose bleeds on it so went off it after 4 months.

An interesting comment about joint pain.Has anybody else had this experience?

I have been on Rivaroxaban for about a year now, swopped from Warfarin, and do get joint pains in my hips. I put this down to ageing but it has come on since starting the Rivaroxaban.

Coincidental?

It was why I stated to my GP that having been on it before i.e. 5 years ago, I experienced noticeable pain in my joints whereas on Warfarin I didn't. I'll see how I fair this time around and discuss in my review in 10 days time. Had been AF free post ablation for nearly 5 years and then suddenly I had an attack: knocked me for six as had Angina as well so taken to Hopistal 🙈

I have developed pain in some of my finger joints was wondering if it could be tablet related it seems to have come on quite rapid and has been worrying me slightly , other joints ok though .

Hi, it's worth discussing with your GP.?? I can only account for the joint pain that I experienced when taking this drug nearly 5 years ago. I found the notes that I kept back then and it's what I recorded. When I stopped taking the tablets the joint pain subsided.

I took it for 12 days in 2013, before adverse effects stopped further doses. I believe it was not particularly new then.

Patented in 2007, marketed in America in 2011 . Probably marketed earlier in Europe as made by Bayer.

I have also taken it for at least 7 years and not had any problems.

Change your GP! Plus keep detailed records of meds and treatment. I have found the latter invaluable.

Hi Julian. My husband has been taking it for years. It was expensive when it first became available that’s why GPs wouldn’t normally have issued this but his private cardiologist asked for it .

Thank you ...I think with the regular blood tests associated with Wafarin in a pandemic probably isn't practicable. For me it was the joint pain that proceeded but need to way that up against potential stroke
