Third time lucky !!!

Hi everyone!

Well I got the phone call today got my date for ablation No3 on 22nd of Feb. Arghhhh!!

Far too many emotions but 100% going ahead as life has been truly awful with these evil arrhythmias. Still don't know what the 7 day holter showed, my EP is going to ring to discuss. I'm a bit concerned of how quick the ablation has been offered after the holter but hopefully I will find out soon. But after I wrote to him before Christmas telling him how bad things were he promised I would be next on the list so I'm probably dramatising as per!!

The main thing im concerned about is covid. I'm number 6 on the list due to asthma, does anyone know if you can have it earlier is your going to have a ablation?

So I'm very anxious but any help to stamp on my mix of arrhythmias I will take. I've been told i have got a 50% success rate so even if it doesn't work I will be on the list for a pace and ablate, not in limbo like this.

Everything crossed I will get on the boat in the Norfolk Broads in September and catch some monster fish!! Had to cancel 3 times due to ticker and covid so it's something to look forward to!

Don't panic Mr Mannering, don't panic, but of course we do! It's just a natural reaction. All I can say is my third ablation was the one that helped me the most. My daughter didn't want me to have it and that made me even more anxious. I wondered if her saying that, was a sign I shouldn't go ahead. So much goes through our heads, but deep within us something says we have hope of being normal again.

I'm really hoping this could be your cure, or at least make your AF as tolerable as mine is now. I lead a fairly normal life and can walk miles up and down hills.

Best wishes

Jean x

yep Jean hopefully 3rd time lucky like you. All the dramas are happening in my upper chambers so hopefully it will be easier to zap. I've accepted I probably won't ever be cured 100% but some relief would be great xx love to you Jean xxx

I have had three ablations and I am in sinus 18 months, although I am still taking Propafenone. In terms of your first two ablations, did you keep track of which part of your heart was ablated, and it there was any reconnection after the second ablation? What was done in the first two ablations greatly impacts the third. You might want to discuss why your EP is giving you only a 50% figure since it is your third. I am assuming these ablations have been close together. I ask these questions for positive uplifting to a good ablation.I wish you the best of luck with a boosted figure to 85%

I'm not a 100% sure but I had a hole in the heart op when I was a sprog and I know that causes issues when ablating. The arrhythmias only happen in my upper chambers since my second ablation so hopefully that will make life easier for my Ep xccc

I've had 4 ablations ... last one OCT 23, 2020 after going AFIB free for nearly 10 years. I'll probably go in for a shorter 'finishing' procedure in MAR or APR to see if I need a Watchman Device installed or some minor ablating. After imaging analysis, they might say I'm one of the Lucky Ones who needs no further treatment .... and just send me home.

Don't be nervous! 20 years ago, I had the worst anxiety you can have, which I got under control through alternative methods (no meds).

To get treated by a world-class EP, I had to fly 3 hours to Los Angeles in the middle of C-19 to get the procedure, alone without my wife. And I have mild chronic Bronchitis and age 67, so I was anxious (which is normal behavior). However, I just took all precautions in airport ... on planes ... at the hospital, etc ... took it one hour at a time and everything worked out fine.

I could probably have had the procedure near where I live (like my first ablation for Atrial Flutter), but I don't fool around with AFIB. I seek out the best EP and get there any way I can. It was worth taking the risk.

Good Luck! with #3 .... I know you will do just fine.

P.S. Jean is correct .... the EP's all know that it often takes a 2nd or 3rd procedure to get those very high percentile success rates!

I hope all goes well. Group 6 will be starting soon and in some areas has been already. It’s worth turning up after lunch at wherever your gp surgery is vaccinating and asking if they have any spare capacity as you are due soon and have this procedure booked. They often have no shows. If you are near the centre and you have snow that’s a good time to try - loads of spare doses at epsom racecourse in last lot of snow abd they rang younger people living nearby. Take your appointment details to show

I am pleased for you but wondering, is ablations going ahead, a post code lottery even with going private?

I was surprised how quickly it all happened. When he wrote back to me (my EP) he said the timescales depended on his schedule and the anesthetists schedule covid demand and ward space. I guess I've just fallen very lucky. Xx
