That solar plexus feeling...

Trying (again) to come off Amiodarone (in NSR) and have started to get the nasty feeling in my solar plexus that I get when I'm on the edge of going back into AF, plus lots of ectopics. Have talked to my Cardiologist in the past about this and it doesn't seem to be a recognised thing. Kind of a nausea, but more neurological, I think.

Has anyone else had this, and what do you do about it?

TIA.

Yes I have it and I have it right now. Feels as though I am hovering on the edge of AF and it could go either way. It’s eased up for half an hour now back again. It’s like a small volcano bubbling away just waiting to erupt.

If it goes into AF I will take my flecainide 100mg and see where that takes me. My Kardia has just recorded possible AF. Horrid isn’t it. Best wishes.

Yes, I find it almost as bad as actual AF. A bit of easily digestible food helps (temporarily)

It’s a weird and very unnerving feeling. Reading about the solar plexus and it’s relationship with the sympathetic nervous system explains why it feels so strange. Do you have digestive issues, I am convinced in my case the connection between heart and gastric is a big trigger for me. It’s a horrid feeling and quite scary.

Yes, totally. But it's only suppressed by a combination of meds and eating carefully (little and often, avoiding wheat and lactose). But if I get either wrong I'll be heading for an attack or at least bad ectos.

I have this too. I have all the warnings of incipient A Fib, all the side effects, but without the actual A Fib. I just stopped Amiodarone after having been on it for nearly a year. I was worried about being on it for so long and coming off it, but the comment by my EP that it had a half life in the system for several months, strangely reassured me. I have a very strong link with this and gastric issues, and I cant work out any triggers. If i eat too much or if I get too hungry, it happens. I have dropped 2 stones in weight, dont drink and eat a mainly plant based diet, but it is still the same. I am slowly learning to live with it and accept the fact that there will be some days when I just have to take to my bed and ride it out.Sue

Such a similar picture! Thanks. I've been on Amiodarone for nearly 3 years now, after an operation for an aortic dissection brought my AF back (previously successfully ablated). Have the same concerns as everyone else on it, but so far my thyroid function figures have been fine. I've now tried 3 or 4 times to drop from 200 mg to 100 mg, with no success, these symptoms every time, after only 2 or so weeks.

Are your six monthly liver function tests OK?

Thanks, good point. Yes, though I have another 6 month check in the next couple of weeks and will ensure this one too.

Checked this morning with my Warfarin Nurse. For me they do thyroid, liver, kidney, full blood count and for some reason cholesterol, and I stay very aware of lung function. Next one 3 weeks' time. It's weird. Normally I'm someone who suffers side effects from any med yet here we are, nasty old Amiodarone, 3 years, no problems other than the normal eye signs, which don't affect sight anyway.
