Generally, it’s recommended that you should be weaned off gradually over a period of weeks. If this wasn’t suggested then you might get a reaction but it should pass in time......good luck
David stopping beta blockers abruptly is not recommended as you can get quite bad withdrawal /rebound effects that can last ballpark figure 3-4 weeks . Some people can just stop them abruptly with no symptoms and I hope you are one of those . You can put bisoprolol withdrawal into the search box at the top if you hit trouble and it will bring up various threads . I would have suggested you dropped a quarter of your tablet and given it a week to see if you had any side effects before deciding to proceed . Bear in mind I am not a doctor but I did withdraw from bisoprolol and had to go back on after 10 days because of the side effects. Changed to Atenolol and weaned of that more slowly and am now 7 days off that and that has worked better for me. The consensus seems to be that people feel better brighter and less tired when they stop beta blockers so good luck and hope all goes well for you
Hi David, I came off 2.5mg bisop last April, weaned off over a couple of months, i tried cold turkey as the doctors told me it was fine. Didn't manage it after a day or so had bad withdrawal, with runs of adrenalin and unpleasant stuff.I did manage to wean off over 8 weeks the second time successfully.
My cardio just stopped mine - no problems at all. I felt anxious at first but no worries at all. I could be wrong as it was sometime ago so that's from memory. I remember though sitting with him and he said no more and changed me to flec there and then ready for my cardioversion.
I came off my 2.5 mgs, my hr had dropped to 37 and I felt so ill and breathless. After a couple of days my AF went a bit berserk, palpitations and anxiety, I took 1.25 mgs for some relief but after a few days I started to feel better after 3 weeks I had loads of energy, woke up feeling good and fingers crossed hr 57 and no af episodes in the last 4 months! Best thing the cardiologist did, good luck
Hi! Can I ask how you managed to go back to a normal sinus rhythm? (I have persistent AFib) PS I only managed to take bisoprolol for three days as it made me so breathless!
Hi, I saw a Cardiologist who performed three procedures, the last one an ablation which put my heart back into normal sinus node. Now 13 weeks after all ok, so far.
Probably best to see your GP and ask for a referral, surprised the GP has not suggested
Hi Dave and thank you for answering.Yes, I was referred in September and had a cardioversion on 17th December. Unfortunately it only lasted for two happy days, then back into AFib while quietly eating my breakfast! Next hospital appointment is next week....
I was just hoping I could perhaps flip it back into rhythm myself! ( Very wishful thinking!)
