Hello I’m now just over three months post ablation. It was my third and under GA. like the other two. Today I had my post op consultation with with Mr Sporton of Barts which was changed for a phone consultation. I was told I’ve now got to accept I’m in permanent AFIB which I had anyway. He’s suggested I stop my 10mg Bisoprolol and change to Verapramil. I’m going to have another appointment in a few months and if I’m not any better then we have discussed Pace and Ablate and he will put me on the list for that. I must admit I was expecting to go straight to Pace and Ablate as I thought I’d tried all the drug options. Mr Sporton who did my op said my heart was scarred from the AFIB and wondered if this has much impact on heart function?

Have you had a recent echocardiogram to show ejection fraction?
No it must have been about four years since I’ve had an echo. Is that something I should think about asking for? Would they be able to find that out from the machines when I have had my ablations? I really need to have some questions ready for my next consultation as it won’t be too far ahead hopefully. Thanks for the reply .
Permanent AF is no bad thing so long as the heart rate is well controlled and there is no collateral damage. An echocardiogram to measure the various chambers and check valve conditon and EF would be useful in terms of indication of general heart health.
Thank you Bob, I know it’s meant to be easier than Paroxysmal but I’m just so fatigued. It will be interesting to see if getting off the Bisoprolol helps.
Hi ETFCfan, when I first started with AF (6 months ago) they put me on 5mg of Bisoprolol. It made me feel very tired and dizzy when I stood up. The dose was reduced to 2.5 mg and I felt much better no dizziness and much more alert. I check my BP and heart rate daily and both are quite acceptably low and well controlled on the lower dose. If I took 10mg daily it would knock me out! I think you may feel much better coming off the Bisoprolol or even reducing it provided your consultant/GP are in agreement.Steve
Maybe I think u could have a Pacemaker asWell
Thank you, that has been suggested the next option if the new drug doesn’t work.
Don’t think it’s Bisoprolol I take 10 mma Day for a year now with 10mm of Ramipril
With No side issues I still have AF after
Ablation in 9 th November 20 at Royal
Brompton but I’m told I am in Blanking
Period??
May go trying a blast of Version again to
try to get back to Sinus Mode.

Hi, I was diagnosed AF in April this year. I was put on Bisoprolol, but it made me feel tired all the time, very weak and light headed. I was again in hospital in July this year, and was told to stop taking Bisoprolol, but if my heart started to race again and I was unable to stop it ,it could use Bisoprolol as a pill in the pocket. In October I my heart again started to race, and I got a pain in my left arm, as it was still racing an hour later,I decided to take a Bisoprolol as a pill in the pocket to slow my heart down. Unfortunately my heart then became very slow and again I was admitted to hospital. I was then put on Teldium and told not to use Bisoprolol again. I take Teldium twice a day and it is a slow release beta blocker. This has worked for me, and I feel a lot better. Still get breathless and a bit tired, but much better in myself.
