I just thought I would add an update on how I feel since my 1st ablation on the 10th feb 2021. I can't believe how I feel, I have my life back. No flutters, no AF and my heart has stayed extremely calm. I now back in the gym working out at a high level, this is the best I have felt since getting hit with AF 7 years ago. I know this could change at anytime but I'm going to stay positive and hope the AF doesn't return

I am so pleased for you, I was actually thinking about how you were doing this morning as well. Long may your new good life continue for you 😊 have you gone back to ‘normal’ eating, drinking too? Are you sleeping on both sides? I always wonder if we can go back to normal ‘everything’ after.
Hi Teresa, yes I'm back to everything including eating and drinking Because AF always started when I first lay on my left side I still get into bed on my right side for the first 5 min just in case keeping that habit for a while longer. I'm still on all meds to until im off them I can't say I won't get AF back at some stage. Feeling really good for now thou. How are you getting on with Dr Tan?
I’m so pleased for you - it sounds really good. Great that you’re getting your life back, that is what I miss. I’m a bit like you with sleeping. I always start in my right dude at least to begin with and then there no problem afterwards…I’m not sure what food triggers it but on bisoprolol I seem ok with most, just don’t chance the coffee or wine anymore 😥 really miss a good coffee.
I really hope you go from strength to strength Dave, it sounds promising.sadly Dr Tan was not able to offer me an ablation. He said to go back him when I’m worse! and as I haven’t had an ‘attack’ since beginning of November ( when I last came off bisop). I tried to argue my case, but in vain. I thought I’d have a better chance with paroxysmal. I’m on a really low dose of bisoprolol and he said bisoprolol doesn’t stop afib 😳 so he was suggesting my state of mind was keeping my afib at bay I think…it was very disappointing. He agreed to see me again in June though ( under NHS) I do still want to try and come off bisoprolol again but coming off very, very slowly, as scared, due to what it was like last time.
Hi Dave thanks for this!So glad you are doing well.. I have been learning on this forum for almost 2 years.. now just found out recently that I actually have SVT and having ablation inn3 days !
Neveird of caution: I read that for 3 months time you can “undo” the ablation because your heart is not totally healed… (we are the same age by the way)….
So even if you can work out at a high level .. I suggest longer term mid level or even low level for a bit longer… up to you but since you are feeling so well .. it would be a shame to reverse the ablation …
Questions; are you less tired overall !
What about other triggers.. I would SO love to have a glass a red wine again someday…
Hi Chris, No not tired in anyway, if anything i'm more active. And because I feel so good I've even had a few glasses of wine with no reactions. Good luck with the ablation, it's nothing to fear, just keep telling yourself your going to get your life back very soon. Living with AF is a nightmare and makes you very insecure, this op is a game changer.
Hi Dave, it was good to read your post, you sound very well. I had my first Ablation 1 week ago and am still feeling a bit jittery but no AF!! I am new to this site and your story has given me real encouragement. Good Luck.
Sorry I made an error in my post. I only had the ablation done on the 10th feb 2022. The jitters will settle within a week. Good luck and stay positive
Minor point, do you mean 10 Feb 2022 (not 2021)?Good luck with your recovery. As someone else said though I wouldn’t push the exercise too hard for a while.
Well done! It returns your self confidence too doesn't it? I've just had my 2nd and despite a BP wobble it feels very different than last time. Word of friendly caution - watch your alcohol intake. Be an occasional not regular drinker and no overdoing it on single days. The research says if we maintain healthy lifestyle changes we do better long term with our ablation success.
Didn't mean to party poop or anything. Glad it's worked well. Had my first under sedation which is why it didn't work well. Last Thursday they did it again under GA and I feel noticeably different
Hi Dave glad it's going so well for you! I'm a bit confused you said you were sedated and awake for the procedure but also say you had GA - which I would prefer if and when I get mine to be honest 😉 What kind of ablation did you have?Anyway great post helping me to make up my mind to go ahead (seeing an EP in April )
It's great to here your story. I had my ablation in June last year and my life is back to normal. I have the odd day with ectopic beats, but it's like having a new lease of life.
That's tremendous news for you. I'm 46 and due my 1st ablation next month. I'm not raising my expectations based on your post but I am lifted by it...and delighted for you. Enjoy... but don't overdo it! 🌸
Hi, believe me I wasn't raising any expectations either, to be honest I was very close to canceling the op all together. It wasn't till I met up with a 30 year old hairdresser who my friend knew that had the op for AF the year before. He walked me through what to expect and the recovery. When I saw how it changed his life I decided to go through with it because i wanted my life back, seriously I can't tell you enough how I feel. Now i've had the taste of normality, I just hope it says this way. Good luck with the op, it's really nothing to worry about.
Thanks for this. I'm not too too worried about the op (though not loving the fact I'll be awake) I'm more underly (!?!) optimistic about the results. Hopeful, but realistic. Nothing else has worked for me and I'm 17 years in!Totally thrilled for you though. But steady as she goes now ! 😉
Had Cryo ablation Dec 15, 2021 went great, no afib, but my afib was controlled with Flecainide 150mg twice per day and one 50mg of metoprolol. Doctor just took me off all meds, it has been 48 hours a little jittery but in normal rhythm, maybe just afraid of an episode. But every hour that goes by I am feeling more relaxed, so excited no drugs for the first time in 5 years!!!!!! Being off the drugs has helped me not wake up at 2am to empty bladder, strange but good, seams I can go a lot longer without the urge to go to bathroom even during the day.😀
Congratulations and so happy to hear of your positive procedure and life-changing results. Although each case is different, reading this is very heartening for me as I am one week out from my first, and hopefully last, cryo ablation. Best wishes for continued good health and enjoyment of life.
Brilliant to read success stories Dave, I’m in for a cryo pvi ablation for AFib in a couple of weeks…I hope I can get my life back as you have…used to be really sporty and still am in my head…..ive been like a caged tiger since getting the AF over the last couple years…thanks for the post mate
Seriously the op is nothing to worry about, I'm back in the gym 5 times a week doing weights and cardio like if I was 25 again, I'm now 58. Heart wise its the best I've felt in 8 years since I was told I had AF which as you know makes you feel crap, old and depressed. As I've said in previous posts i'm still on meds so not out of the woods yet but onwards and upwards as they say Good luck with the op and stay positive.Dave
Brilliant mate im same age as you….not ready for pipe and slippers yet😉 it really mashes your head when you can’t do what you want doesn’t it? I’ve been so miserable trying to do what I can to stop putting weight on…but limited to what you can do cos of the beast…I’ve managed to Keep my weight to to 11 stone 11 so I’ve only gained 5 or 6 lbs with loads of walking and other steady stuff.. keep enjoying the fitness mate great to hear you are back to doing what you love✌️😉
