Amiodarone seems to make a little dizzy. Fatigued. And a slower hr. I’ve only been on it a week. I think it should be changed. Any views?

Amiodarone effects
Amiodarone needs a loading dose and takes a very long time to become affective. I would give it a month and then decide. It’s difficult to know if the meds cause the symptoms or the disease. Amiodarone is meant to slow your HR. It’s not the nicest drug to be on but it is the most affective for keeping you in NSR.
If your HR is very low and stays there then you should go see your doctor as soon as possible. Are you seeing an Electrophysiologist? Are you being regularly monitored?
I can’t add much but amiodarone can have an adverse effect on the thyroid over time. If you haven’t had recent blood tests to check your thyroid function then that’s something you should talk to your doctor about......
Amiodorone can also have deleterious effects on the lungs. I was advised to have Pulmonary Function Studies before taking it so baseline could be established. There are other dangerous effects and this drug should only be used as a last resort. I was placed on Tikosyn which has worked for 3 years keeping me dysrhythmia free without side effects. However I understand this drug is not available in the UK.
