Not specifically AF related but for those of you who have been asking about me, this week I moved to phase 3 - out of my cast and into a moon boot for 5 weeks. I’m still mainly non weight bearing but I can stand, just not walk. I have to sleep in the moon boot too. Specialist said this type of surgery takes a long time to heal and the wrong movement can undo all his hard work.
The good news is that my heart is still behaving. I’m seeing my EP just before Christmas as he wants to keep a close eye on me.
So I’ll be stuck in the wheelchair for Christmas and New Year, but hey, there’s worse things. 😎

Excellent news Kaz, everything going in the right direction. Hope you have lots of help for Christmas.
I broke my ankle the day before Christmas Eve about 8 years ago and they couldn’t set it for 10 days so I just had a back slab on until the swelling came down. Great timing huh?
My husband doesn’t (can’t) cook so my son + family kindly changed their plans and arrived for Christmas and took over. I rather enjoyed not being able to do anything for once!
Any and every day without AF is to be appreciated. Take care.
Thanks CD. I feel like the past few years I’ve had some excuse or another 😂. That said this will be the first Christmas for about 20 years that I haven’t hosted and cooked Christmas lunch. My brother has a new pool so they are hosting a Christmas Day BBQ lunch and swim (not that I’ll be swimming this year) 😉
How lovely Kaz - enjoy! No swimming to be had this year here - don’t know if you remember me posting pics of the Christmas swim last year? It’s turning cold now and the skies are very grey - life feels grey so I bought myself a food mixer - never had one before but I love baking but stopped because my muscles don’t really work for more than a few minutes now and I get too tired, too quickly but today - I’m going to bake!
I won’t have more than a mouthful because it will make me ill, but I’m going to BAKE! 🤩
Brilliant. Keep doing as they say. Whether in a wheelchair or not I do hope you have a good Christmas with all the restrictions around. I read a really good "joke" on Facebook the other day under the title "Very British Problems: Under a new tier doing exactly the same as you did previously but more confused and worried."
I’m thinking of you all in the UK and USA. Thankfully we are doing well her in Australia. Shutting our borders has helped. Our state borders are slowly opening up but it will still be a long time before the international border is open.
Good to hear of your improvement. I had to sleep with a moonboot on in July but only for a fortnight, after falling downstairs on my bottom with my right leg bent. The result was a hairline fracture of my fibula, which healed without a cast. Fortunately the fibula is not weight bearing.
It turns out that I have also damaged my peroneal nerve which sends signals to muscles to raise my foot off the floor or ground. I can only raise my foot by raising my leg from the knee. I wear a leg/foot splint 23½ hours a day.
I'm fortunate that I can walk, outside with a stick, and inside without one.
I am waiting for nerve conduction tests to determine if the damage is temporary or permanent. Evidently sometimes the nerve starts working again up to a year after it was damaged
The tests have now been delayed by 4 months due to the local Covid 19 situation.
I hope you and your family have a good Christmas and a healthy new year.
I hope your foot gets sorted Thomas. It was my perineal tendon that I tore so that’s probably pretty close to the nerve you mentioned. We often take our feet for granted, until things like this happen. 😀
Kaz, you must have the patience of a saint, such a long time to be inactive. You are very wise to follow the surgeon's orders, imagine going through all this and then be back where you started! Let your family take care of you this year, you will have plenty time once you are up and active.
