Interesting article on who may benefit & who should avoid.

Interesting link CD. I wonder where we can buy some organic Swiss Water Process decaf coffee. Must Google it.

I know you can get naturally decaf coffee nearby Jean, shop in Topsham but it costs! Caffeine is a natural insecticide so you can see why it affects our nervous system!

Wow never, knew it was a natural insecticide!

The plant produces caffeine to deter insects from eating the leaves hence it’s presence in tea and cocoa as well. Natural de-caff comes from beans and leaves from the growing tip of the plant because there will be less caffeine there. Trouble with most de-caffs is that they often use chemicals which are more toxic than caffeine so you may well be better drinking ordinary tea/coffee if caffeine doesn’t affect you.

I remember a study of psychoactive drugs on spiders and how they spin their webs it was the caffeine which deorientated the spider most!

Clipper make a nice organic decaf - Waitrose and possibly Sainsbury’s, although I have a feeling Sainsbury’s stopped stocking it a couple of years ago but that might just have been the branch I was using.

Sainsbury's sell one by Percol. It is ok but I'm not enamoured. 😊

It’s interesting because I was the same. I had a period between 2007-2015 when I couldn’t have any caffeine, now it doesn’t seem to affect me. Could be something to with retiring in 2014 so my ANS is more balanced & HRV mirror that as well. It could also be the meds I took for Myasthenia as I noticed a huge improvement in my ANS after being on that me for a few months. But I still have the odd day when a strong coffee does raise my HR.

Hi John, what medication out of interest?

Thank you. I have been on Flecainide for 23 days now and although the higher dose is better, I’m still having more than double the number of pre-medication episodes, albeit that they terminate faster. If no better in another week or so then I’ll need something else I think.

It seems that most of the benefits are obtainable from decaff, so why not go with that? A good quality decaff which uses the Swiss Water Process is often hard to tell from caffeinated. The other drink which I have recommended here is white tea, which has numerous health benefits and about a third of the caffeine of black tea.
