Dr Sanjay Gupta....Can AF be Inherited.
I realised that I had ectopics twenty five years ago and gradually this morphed to AFib which was diagnosed when I was in hospital seven years ago. Now one of my children, who is 57, has ectopics.
We don't have any other comorbidities. I think he has probably inherited it from me.
My mother developed afib around 70 I developed it around my mid 30s and I have a niece in her 30s also with arrithmias not sure if afib kind though
For some reason, I adore Dr Gupta! Maybe the way he is looking, more probably the way he is talking, still more probably all the good one can feel in him...
I know that he has many fans in our group! Dr Gupta, thank you so much for all you are doing for us, AFibers !!!
I saw him first and have adored him for many years. Such kind smiling eyes, has no airs and graces and explains everything in a way we can all understand.

XXX, P.
I have AF and my son is waiting for his second cardio version.
My grandfather had “ complicated heart conditions” but died in the 60s so not sure what My dad had afib and was treated by the excellent cardiologist treating mine! My brother doesn’t .... but I don’t begrudge him that!
I'm sure it can . My maternal Granma had it,so did my mum. Both had strokes ,eventually fatal from AF.
Absolutely. My mother had it and my nan died of a stroke at the age of 63.
Yes, AF runs in my family too. My mum, who didn't know she had it until she was investigated for cancer, one of my sisters, probably my youngest daughter (calls them panic attacks) and a cousin. The thing is until it makes us feel really ill, we think the way our heart is thumping is normal. Mine used to really bang in my chest when walking uphill and I thought everyone experienced the same. It disappeared with my first ablation.

As I have been saying for so many years if your heart has certain genetic anomalies' (and they don't need to be much) or is built in a specific way then you can be more likely to have AF than the average person. Two things further mitigate AF and those are age and over exercise.
Considering that AF has only been treated really for the last generation (since early 90's) I am sure that digging deep into your family history will reveal some connection. My maternal grandmother who lived to be over 100 maybe had it and possibly my father but in neither case was it ever diagnosed or treated. I remember Prof John Camm telling me about ten years ago that when he was at medical school AF was considered a normal function of ageing!
Hi , 6 of my close relatives have Af , my cardiologist told me my paroxysmal Afib was inherited from them , but sometimes it’s just bad luck if you have this condition. ..
Dr Sanjay Gupta is wonderful in every way! He is so helpful and encouraging and it is so interesting to hear about the genetic research. THANK you Dr Gupta and yes, how handsome he is!
