I am on Nebivolol. My pills are 5mg but are scored in 4 for easy breaking. I am on 1.25mg. I believe that 2.5mg is the smallest size produced but for some reason it is very expensive so it is more economical for docs to prescribe the 5mg to be broken into the required number of bits.

I do not know if the whole text is below but I was 2.5mg bisoprolol and my doctor recommended nebivolol 1.25mg for two weeks and then 2.5mg I changed because bisoprolol made me insomnia and low mood for the first 6 months worked well after the symptoms came I said above now in nebivolol I am 2.5mg I sleep better but I suffer from headache and tinnitus at 1.25mg nebivolol did not help me much in the palpitations and the feeling of pulses that you want anything else I am at your disposal

I was changed from 1.25mg Bisoprolol to 2.5mg Nebivolol two years ago. I changed from one day to the next, had no side effects but got rid of breathlessness, fatigue and generally feeling awful.

Nebivolol is cardiac-specific and doesn't act on lung tissue in the way Bisoprolol does which is why it is recommended for asthmatics. I'm not asthmatic by the way but was fed up with Bisoprolol's side effects.

I’m convinced I’m getting dreams as a a result of Bisoprolol. Also no longer helping palpitations etc

I’m sick of dreaming ALL night! Get headaches, breathlessness, muscle aches. I’ve cut the 1.25 in bits.

I dream with Bisoprolol

I changed from 2.5mg bisoprolol twice a day to 2.5mg Nevibolol twice a day last year. The Bisoprolol was making me breathless and generally fatigued, but I feel much better taking Nevibolol.

I do keep some Bisoprolol in case I get Fast AF. It is better for slowing heart rate down.

The change over was simple, just started Nevilolol when next Bisoprolol was due.

Go for it, you have nothing to lose.

Thanks. Do you take Bisoprolol when you get AF ? The Bisoprolol keeps my heart rate low when I get AF . Does Nevibolol not keep your HR down ?

Yes I take Bisoprolol if my AF is fast to slow it down. Sometimes I don’t need it.

My cardiologist told me that Nebivolol is no good as a PIP because it does not slow the heart down like Bisoprolol does.

When I was on Bisoprolol my resting heart rate Was about 65. It now averages 72.

May I ask your reason for taking Beta Blockers

Mrsvemb profile image

I take them for PAF.

I find the same as mrs vemb. The Nebivolol does not work nearly as well to slow the heart rate during an attack of afib so I take some Bisoprolol . But for everyday use it has less side effects especially if like me you have asthma.

After a variety of heart problems, I was originally put onto 5mg, reduced to 2.5 and further reduced to 1.25. Unlike earlier, I now feel 'myself' and consultant happy with small quantity. But beware pharmacy giving you getting larger quantity: if they do, just break the pill!

They do this because the smaller pills are disproportionately expensive.

I had bad side affects when on Bisoprolol 2.5. Eventually changed to Nebivolol and was brilliant after a couple of weeks, not anywhere near as breathless and tired.

Another breakthrough i have just had recently, not entirely related but jolly useful to know. I was in Omeprazole for bad reflux which had irritated my vagus nerve , the symptoms can be confused as a heart attack. Anyway stayed on the Omep for a few years, I developed a really bad cough, enough violent coughing to make me sick. People avoiding me as they suspected I had Covid and family seriously worried. Had a barrage if tests , non explaining away the dreadful cough, Drs decided I had boarder line COPD but even that does not normally cause such awfull coughing. Anyway eventually read on line about silent reflux and met someone who had been treated for it and cured his cough. I decided to try it, come iff the Omeprazol and get Peptac which is available over the counter in Boots. I now have no cough!

it has been like a miracle and i can’t believe I felt so bad for so many years when there was such a simple solution out there.

Hope this helps someone else.

The Cardiac GP I see changed me from 10mg Bisoprolol to 10 mg Nebivolol a few months’ ago (I can’t remember when). This was supposedly to help with poor circulation and breathing issues. I didn’t notice any side effects but it hasn’t helped. I also take 62.5 mcg of Digoxin plus Rivaroxaban, Fuorsemide, Spironolactone and Candesarten all once a day except for Fuorsemide 40 mg which I take every other day. I had a CRT pacemaker implanted almost a year ago and I am going for a check up for that next week and am also having another Echo next week to see if my EF has changed. I am in moderate to high HF and permanent AF.

Why have you been prescribed a higher dose of Nebivolol? I changed from1.25 mg Bisoprolol to 1.25mg Nebivolol . I changed because l was getting constant blackouts on the Bisoprolol. I have no blackouts now and feel so much better . My resting heart rate is still the same in the 50s or up to 63.

No major side effects with Bisoprolol. However, it was having less effect on my AF and palpitations as it did at the start 4 months ago

I switched 1.25 bisoprolol for 1.25 nebivolol, nebivolol much better, less lethargic and greater exercise capacity.
