TTN protein gene

Just thought this is interesting. I have a cousin who lives in California and was diagnosed with heart problems and he was found to have a mutated titin gene. Can't remember exactly what his diagnosis is but not Afib. He is wealthy so has the means to see the best Drs. California is a messed up state but does have some really good medical facilities and Drs. Anyhow he was found to have a mutated titan gene. We all have this gene. It's what makes all our muscles elastic. And especially the heart. Sometimes this protein mutates or simply goes haywire and can cause the muscles to lose elasticity. Bad for the heart. It can cause different heart diseases including afib. It's been known about in the medical community for quite some time but only very recently has been studied in what it can do to the heart. That's why my cousin was tested for titin. It can cause the heart to enlarge since it loses its elasticity. My cousin is treated for it with some meds but I don't know what. He's one that only tells half of the whole story. πŸ˜’ . But he says he's doing well. He's a busy guy at 77. Has worked since he was 14 and he and his wife both involved in various organizations and politics. He told me it was probably on his dad's side of the family. He said several people on his dad's side ( YEARS ago before medicine knew much about heart disease)had passed away suddenly. No one knew why. My cousin talked to his Drs and they said it was very possible that they had this bad TTN gene and caused them to pass on suddenly. I'm not writing this to scare anyone. It's just that there's so much out there that isn't known. From the few studies that have been done on TTN, Drs say some people can have it and end up with heart problems and others are never bothered by it. But they say many people are walking around with this bad TTN gene and of course don't know unless like my cousin something isn't right with them. Had he not had good access to very good cardio Drs who knew about this gene he may have never known what was wrong. More than likely it had been studied somewhere in Calif. From what I read it's going to be studied a lot further. And people aren't being tested for it unless it's deemed necessary. The reason being the Drs wouldn't want to make us anxious. Like so many of us aren't already dealing with Afib?πŸ˜’

I was going to tell the cardio Dr I saw. about all this (who's already turned me back over to my gp) but I figured he wasn't worth telling since he's just a pill pusher anyway and didn't let me discuss anything with him. I truly doubt he would have known about the TTN gene. 😴 Just thought this was interesting.

Everyone in the UK and anywhere else who's going through another lockdown be safe. News on the TV in Florida this morning says this fall will be bad here with a surge in covid. I don't think the surge has ever stopped over here. I know it's hard but if more people would just get off their high horse and wear masks and follow what guidelines there are it might help more. It breaks my heart when these young people party somewhere and get it and bring it home to their parents or grandparents and then they're sorry after its too late. LOTS of us older people never dreamed we'd live to see something like this but lots are not taking it seriously. We should all try to look out for one another and be thankful if it hasn't touched our lives. I saw a post on here this morning that Dr Gupta's colleague is very sick in the hospital with covid. Can't remember the Drs name but he has a wife and 4 children who depend on him greatly. He got it caring for covid patients in the hospital he worked in. Gave his all. I see there's a go fund me started for him. It hurts me to not be able to donate. But I do send my prayers for he and his family. Everyone please be safe during this time. We are living in a different world now. πŸ˜”

Goodness mes, I have never heard of The Titin Gene but rapidly looked it up after reading your post. I suppose this falls into the possibility of future gene therapy.

Totally agree with your comments on taking this second wave seriously.

Best of luck out there and stay safe.

TTN could also cause Afib. I believe I saw that somewhere in my reading and my cousin also brought that up. He was thinking I could have that TTN gene problem but decided not since it came from his father. Hope they learn more about it. Might help some people.

Yes thank you. You stay safe also.
