Update on A&E dilemma - I went and I’m back 🦋

I phoned 111 who directed me to A&E - surprise!

I was seen very quickly, straight in to tests and then put in a nice comfy room. Young doctor came and heard my story, examined me, checked meds and went to speak to his ‘consultant’. As I hadn’t taken my ‘top up’ pill they told me to take it so they could see what happened. Eventually consultant came in to say my HR had gone down. I pointed out that it did anyway if I rested, and whipped out my trusty Kardia to show that it hadn’t helped the day before, and was able to show how often I had had episodes recently. We had the questions about drink, drugs and smoking and she decided I lead a blameless life and couldn’t go on like this. So my GP is to refer me to a cardiologist (the lack of follow up last year was an administrative error 😡) and I may be referred to the Arrhythmia clinic as well. Come back if I have chest pain or dizziness in the meantime.

All great except I’m still stuck in AF until whenever. Perhaps I should dig up another clump of irises and see if it reverses the process!

Thank you all for your sympathy and encouraging words, so wonderful to have someone who understands to talk to 🦋

Oh thank you for the update, Buffafly! I was just wondering how you were. Sounds like you explained things really well, and overall a good outcome (given that you’re still in AF).

It must be reassuring having been checked over? - frustrating about the referral though- let’s hope you get seen soon now.

Do keep us posted... And good luck with the therapeutic Iris manoeuvres!! Xxx

So pleased that you have managed to get some answers and were treated so well. At least there's now a plan up ahead for you, but how annoying that you're still in AF!

Wishing you well.

Hope you progress your referral - I think that’s the only way to access treatment.

Just saw this . Well, good news that you are to get seen by cardiologist. But ,not so good that you are still in the grip of IT.

I had a long run in February which just petered out in the end so hope it's the same for you!

Best wishes and thinking of you xx

Really relieved to hear this, and your experience proves that it is best to be forearmed with your personal recordings in case there is any (possibly unintentional) fobbing off. Hope your wait to see the cardiologist isn't too long, and that in the meantime your heart quietens down. All good wishes x

It is a good answer to the question of whether it is worth having a Kardia if you already know you have AF and are aware of when episodes start. As my aim when I phoned the GP in the first place was to get a cardiologist appointment I was determined that that was going to be the outcome of my visit, if nothing else 🙂

As a newbie on here, I have been reading your posts with awe. I’m amazed at how you’ve coped with this, and hope I can be like you if I have an episode like that. Everyone on here seems so much worse than I am, and it humbles me to read about it. This is a very helpful forum.

I’m glad it’s helpful. You have to remember that I (and many others) have had AF for a long time so we’ve got more to the stage of our reaction to an episode being a string of swear words or equivalent rather than a panic attack which adds to the suffering. It’s not a competition to see who’s got the worst AF - I think the same as you sometimes when I read others posts, and sometimes TBH I feel someone is making too much of a fuss but I have to remind myself how I felt at the beginning ☺️ Best wishes 💜

Despite still being still in AF if you are anything like me just being checked over can reduce the stress.

I am also glad you are lined up to have a consultation with an EP and Arrhythmia Clinic. Not happy about the administrative error though.

Not EP, sadly, but at least I got my wish to see the cardiologist, now to try to get the best one 😐 As you say, good to be checked over, bloods were fine so no explanation apart from over exertion - or the wrong kind 😕 Still in AF but I’m hopeful it’s going to revert naturally. I’m glad I mentioned the lack of follow up - they seemed slightly surprised that I wasn’t seen regularly. Even the AF clinic is a step in the right direction.

Yes good to get a positive response. It does help the stress element. Just to know your naughty heart is coping.

It can get a pain in the butt and comes at the most annoying of times.

It can get you very down at times. But we aren’t alone always someone on here says something that makes total sense.

You have all been so helpful to me to get my drugs changed that have helped me so much.

So bless you all. Wish this forum didn’t exist ever but ...... thank goodness it does.

Bless you all.
