Went for 6 weeks AF free and have now had 2 episodes within a week.

Last week had PIP, 3 x 100mg Flecainide and 3 x 25 mg Metropolol over 24 hr period, no joy. Waited out another 6/7 hours nil medication and finally back in sinus. Still was not feeling 100% and as stated in previous post Metropolol does make me feel a bit off.

Two days ago AF again, I went straight to A & E, as had a bit of breathlessness as well. I was admitted and monitored during which time I had Felcainide and Metropolol, magnesium and a full bag of electrolytes. Cardio version was mentioned but eventually back in rhythm. Had bouts of dizziness and bradycardia whilst in hospital. I have been advised and am now taking rivaroxaban. Chad score currently 0 but specialist requested I take rivaroxaban for month( thinking this will be extended). Specialist advised that I have been given this as when I revert to sinsus my atrium is still not operating at 100%. He did say the medical term but I can't remember at this time. Discharge letter emailed to GP as no hard copy available at time of discharge.

Apologies for long winded, my question is firstly what are people's experience with rivaroxaban?

Also maybe a question for a separate post re AF being recognised as a disability in regards to ability to work( for persons not of retiring age).

Hope everyone is staying well in these trying times.

All the best from Land of Oz

Stay safe

Cam

Hi Cam

I’m in Oz too. I’ve been on Rivaroxiban for a couple of years with no dramas.

I have been in similar situations with some meds working and others not etc and am on 300mg Flec as a pill in the pocket, which does't always work so end up in A&E . I have been on Rivaroxaban for probably 4 years without any issues other than I had a couple of nose bleeds initial but that was not a concern to the doctor who said it was just an adjusting period. I feel very comforted indeed to be on it. ( my wife had a severe stroke at 56 a few years ago so i'm extra cautious anyway )

I was diagnose in 1992 with AF and have had a troubled time with different tablets and other comorbidities being added over the years. Until recently I took Warfarin but have now moved over to Apixaban. I have had 3 ablations and 9 cardio versions but still get AF.

As for is it a disability? If it is making an impact on your day to day living then yes! Would your employer think so is another matter (from my own experience). Then you would need to see if the local council would consider you for a Blue Badge. Most councils now expect you to be on full mobility PIP before they will issue a Blue Badge. ( I did have a Blue Badge without PIP for a number of years) DWP would need you to fill in their form for PIP and then decide if the condition warrants any points for Mobility?

I worked all the way though from 1992 to 2013 before my health reached a level it was not possible anymore. I hope this has helped?

Be well
