Getting an ECG interpreted.

I had an ECG a month ago and got the letter from the place that did it but when I contacted the heart failure nurse she said she didn't really understand them which shocked me to be honest. My GP is no way a cardiologist and the actual cardiologist is virtually uncontactable. Last appontment was by phone and next in 6 months is also by phone. Would there be somewhere I could email results and do it that way ? or even on here ?

Sit tight!I seem to remember a while ago someone else had this problem and was recom. a clinic that would interpret the results for a fee. So maybe that person will see your post and direct you to the company.

The NHS has some testing equipment - but, sometimes, the problem is to get someone who knows which way is up to look at the data.

Give it a try and maybe someone can devine something useful from it. Ask for a copy and hopefully they will send it and you can post it.

Reading ECG is a highly skilled job and I would not expect a nurse or even a GP to fully understand one. Even the computer generated diagnosis is often way of course. Probably a bit late now but ALWAYS ask for a copy of any tests and results and keep a file at home. It is your right. My obvious question is what were you/they expecting to find?

I complained of breathlessnes/weak legs after ablation .I guess that was the reason

Pretty normal then.

Have you read our fact sheet on recovery? People usually have unreasonable expectations following ablation. heartrhythmalliance.org/res....

Yes Bob I did read it but I am 5 months post ablation and I can do less now than before. I asked about a Cardiac pulmonary exerise test (cpet)on the phone but didn't even get a reply so was offered an ecg but no one has explained what the results mean. (heart failure nurses can't help ??) so I'm probably going to go private to get a cpet test and attempt to get my cardiologist (or any cardiologist) to decipher the results. I'm used to being active.

I use this site to learn about ECGs.

It might be of some use to you.

Thanks Phil. I did what happyjo suggested - contacted BHF who were helpful. I am still shocked that the HF nurses couldn't help. They seem to be glorified drug pushers to me.
