Increased number of ectopics

The number of ectopics I’ve been having over the last few weeks is so disheartening. I take 200mg of magnesium daily and for a while the number of ectopics I was getting was minimal but recently they’ve increased substantially and I don’t know why. I was generally getting them when resting but the last couple of weeks I’m getting them during any activity. I know they are generally benign and stress can create more but I don’t feel particularly anxious. Does anyone know if taking flecainide as a maintenance dose prevents ectopics or any other medication that would control them. Thanks

That is a very small dose. The daily minimum 3 recommended amount for men is 400mg. I think it is probably safe to take that as a supplement .

Yeah it’s small but don’t want to take to much just in case upset stomach

I take 300mg in 3 divided doses. It does not seem to upset my stomach.

Have you seen your cardiologist about these ectopics?

Spoke to him previously and he said they were benign and there’s not much that can be done. Most people get them but some feel them where others don’t. Mine are caused through the vagus nerve. It’s down to what I consume so it’s determining what to eat and what not to eat.

I honestly think mine down to vagus nerve also but there could be days I eat the same food and still get ectopics really frustrating, do you get any light headed with yours or any symptoms like that?

Other than the feeling in my chest I don’t have any other symptoms. They are so bloody frustrating. I’ve just bought some coconut water as I’m trying to introduce more electrolytes (potassium) to my diet. I’ll see how I get on over the next few days.

Hi,

Been reading your threads over the weeks and see your having issues re ectopics. I to have been suffering with Pac's since my ablation which stopped my AF 2yrs ago,I had a surgical ablation .I to think my Pac's are caused by vagus and tried lots of methods and currently been thinking of the electrolyte issue ,especially if your peeing a lot because you could possibly lose more ,and also become dehydrated which can cause them too. Yes anxiety is a big trigger for them ,I have found ways of greatly reducing them because i've been trying all sorts methods and all the things you have you've previously mentioned I have tried .

I promised that I’d give feedback on the coconut water. Been taking it for around two weeks now. Having 500ml a day generally mid morning. I’ve also increased my magnesium intake to 275mg per day. So far my ectopics are much better. I get the occasional one or two but a lot better than prior to increasing magnesium and potassium. I’m not going to tempt fate and will keep doing what I’m doing currently

Fantastic News, could be an electrolyte imbalance

Yes it could be. Just want it to continue now though and not cross my chickens before they hatch

Try increasing to 300mg or even 400mg and taking in 3/4 doses of 100mg spaced out through the day.

Yes I think I’ll increase magnesium to 275 to start with. I’ve got magnesium taurate @ 200mg and triple mag at 75mg. I’ll give it a try thanks. How much do you take

Auriculaire profile image
Auriculaire in reply toProfound15

I take 300mg a day in 3 doses with meals. The women's daily recommended amount is 350mg. I would like to take more but have enough problems with my bowels due to having had a colectomy so don't want to risk them becoming even more active! I do get occasional ectopics but nothing really troublesome. They always precede an afib attack though.
