In and out of AF within hours. Common?

Hello hello. Hope you are keeping well and staying safe. Am having AF at the moment since 8 hours ago. But there were times when I took Kardia readings and I would be in normal reading for a while before it went to AF again - it corresponded to what I was feeling too. Thumping heartbeats etc. Is this common - ? I mean to be in and out of AF - having a short burst then OK and then back into AF? Ask does anyone experience AF with a feeling of nausea, lots of gas and vomiting? If you do, how did you treat/handle it? Am just resting at home and taking it easy. Appreciate the sharing. Thanks so much.

I don t know when this was.....ahhh 9 hrs ago.......hope you re feeling better.

Lots people having more attacks with the virus stress.

The old sympathetic nervous system.

We re in fight or flight mode and get stuck at the top of the cortisol spike

Then the vegus nerve gets up there to help and hey presto.......adrenaline comes down slowly and we mis fire...........as the adrenaline shifts we go in and out of a fib until we are down again..............a theory?

I don t know but interesting......

Vegus nerve to do with digestion so gas etc??????

Take care

My ramblings get worse but takes my mind off a fib😊

Hi there! Thanks for the reply. Yes finally out of it after 14 hours. I find that my AF normally will be triggered by what I consume and it started with a tummy upset.

Sounds all very familiar. I coped by focussing on my slow breathing or sleeping because AF made me incredibly tired. I found audio books really good, listening to music, anything that distracted me. The worst thing was to focus on the heartbeat, instead allow it to fade into the background, you will never be able to ignore it completely. Do things when you feel you are able and stop when tired. For the nausea - sip hot water - sip rather than drink and just always keep a cup of warm water beside you. It really helps with the nausea and I find often soothed vagus nerve.

Avoid cold fizzy drinks, stress and doing too much and getting tired.

Best wishes for speedy recovery.

Thank you for the tips CD. Always good to know that we are not alone in this journey. This morning I tried to do some light cooking to take my mind off the thumping heartbeat. Unfortunately for me, work wise this is a stressful time of the year and with this pandemic it has definitely amplified the challenges. Anyways, positivity is the order of the day I guess for Afibbers like us. Take care.

I had a 4 hour one yesterday. Took magnesium tablet but no effect just felt as if i had a lump in throat strangling me! Always feel the rapid beat on right side of neck. Felt quite sick with it. Tried to eat sandwich as magnesium not good on empty stomach but felt it stuck in throat. Went to bed at 8, took my 25 mg Atenolol which eventually put it away together with nausea but all very frightening. Have never had ablation as doctor said so far i am handling it ok on own but it is hard. Good luck to you

Bread is the worst thing to eat - always causes that stuck in the throat sensation - avoid bread, biscuits or anything starchy. Protein is good or fruit or yogurt.

Thanks for reply CDreamer. Next time i will try cold yoghurt. And warm drinks. I have the tightness in my throat when attack starts but bread definitely was wrong choice.

Hi there !! Thanks for the reply. I can totally relate to what you were experiencing. Me too have not done any procedure yet .. actually a cryoablation was postponed due to Covid. Lately my episodes have become more frequent. I guess that’s a sign that I should not delay the ablation. Hope you are feeling better today.

Thanks Spritzer. I am fine today, a few near misses, have just had a quiet day with Netflix. Too scared to do my 5 mike walks etc. My attacks, or near misses, are becoming more frequent too. I hope your ablation helps you. Let me know how you get on

How short is a short burst?

It could be ectopics, I know that I sometimes feel like AF is back because of the sheer number of ectopics I am feeling and even though my Kardia warned of possible AF getting it reviewed by an expert is showed bigeminy

Hi there! I sometimes get a short burst of Af that last only a few minutes then I am back to normal rhythm. Yesterday I was flipping in and out of AF for about 14 hours. It was AF and a few normal tracings which I sent to my EP for interpretation. I do get a lot of ectopics too lately.

Sounds like my symptoms too. I have loads of missed or extra beats which can start an episode unless i hold my breath
