I know how hard it is my QOL has been so up and down since AF just horrible from one day to the next I get some great advice here to try and make things better with diet, excercise and supplements but when things are still going wrong you just want to give up but I still try fight another day and say this is going to be a better one

You would have to ask a doctor or pharmacist, we're not qualified to tell you.

I will say that I had a short period of depression and I was prescribed sertraline but hated the feelings it gave me

Sorry to hear you feel depressed at the moment Dan. I think Mickee hit the mail on the head - you need to speak to your doctor.

I think we all handle depression in different ways - it affects some more than others. It certainly doesn't help if you have afib too. Have a natter to a health care professional by phone if you can.

There's also a forum on here that might help

healthunlocked.com/anxiety-...

Maybe it's worth posting on there too - maybe others going through the same thing might be worth talking to ?

Best,

Paul

I don't need to be a qualified doctor to put your medication into Medscape's Interaction Checker to see what comes up. Doctors use the same app.

The Fluoxetine will react with antiarrhythmics such as the Amiodarone. Both prolong the QTc duration and if longer than 500ms then it could lead to dangerous ventricular arrhythmias such as Torsades de Pointes.

Also called Long QT Syndrome or LQTS.

Using antiarrhythmic meds by themselves will increase the QTc somewhat but not to dangerous levels. Max is 450ms.

Adding antidepressants may push it over the limit so if you need the meds then occasional ECG 12 leads will have to be done to check on this.

Ameaderone can also cause your Fluoxetine plasma levels to increase to toxic levels. Blood samples need to be tested for this.

There are no antidepressants available on NHS that do not increase QTc.

I was on Sertraline but had to stop when my QTc got to 477ms.

The best think to do is ask your pharmacist he knows more about medicine than your Dr. I call mine and ask all the time.

My GP looked into anti depressants for me, I have PAF and Sertraline was the one she recommended.

Sertraline increases QTc but by itself does not cause problems. Taking antiarrhythmics with it can cause problems.

I have done research on every antidepressant available on NHS and all increase QTc. My GP has taken me off Sertraline and she cannot find one that I can take with Flecainide.

Not what you're looking for?
