Hi - good question! I also burp when I have an afib or SVT attack. I don’t know why ...

I think it is good that you are burping so it relieves pressure on the Vagus Nerve which may otherwise trigger an AF episode. I have been burping too much for several years and (as I eat too fast) I am currently testing to eat slower, chew my food more & don't open my mouth until it is all swallowed to avoid swallowing additional air.....too early to say whether this is successful but like a lot of my lifestyle changes there is much more upside potential and no real downside.

Burping is one symptom of hiatus hernia. That's where I've gone to help with my PAF - digestion. If you're having difficulty breathing during an episode or over breathing due to anxiety I'm guessing that might cause you to swallow air and burp?

And it could be your burping has absolutely nothing directly connected to AF.

Have you been tested for SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth). This can cause constant burping and bloating. Bacteria have no business being in the small intestine and can cause many symptoms.

I am not promoting this company but this is the most informative article around SIBO I have found with a gamut of information. From what my own NHS doctor says the Breath Test can result in false negatives/positives so is not reliable so she relies more on clinical history to diagnose and has reasonable success in eliminating the problem either with antibiotics and/or strict diet changes, as described in the article. Fasting is an important stage of the treatment process.

In my experience when we have GI problems we are just more likely to have AF.

I’m not a fan of probiotics in capsule form as they tend to pass straight through but encouraging gut flora where it should be - in the lower gut is about eating prebiotic foods and in any case if it is SIBO - probiotics won’t have any affect.

I have the same issue, have tried several things and get some decent relief from taking a digestive enzymes tablet before each meal. stomach and/or esophageal spasms kick off burping and my AF. I can stop AF by coughing hard for 5 seconds, I then burp and off it goes again, so have a lot of empathy on that one.

I’m going to try Kefer milk apparently it’s the bees knees for just about everything. Including digestion system

Hello bigolbears

I too have excessive belching after I eat, regardless what I eat. I have been experiencing ectopic heartbeat (pause) for the the past 3+ months. My resting heart rate is 58bpm, I walk 20,000+ steps per day, eat healthy, none drinker, none smoker. I was diagnosed 10 years ago with a hiatus hernia. I notice my ectopic beats are greater soon after I've eaten and soon after my meal, I begin belching and when I mean belching, they can last 15-20 seconds each time. Soon after my belching starts, my ectopic beats subside. I AM CONVINCED MY ECTOPIC BEATS HAVE SOME CONNECTION TO MY HIATUS HERNIA. My doc has scheduled me for a stress test and soon after that a specialist to check out my hiatus hernia. Is this what you mean by belching/burping?

I don't have any problems with digestion and only get AF every one or two months. BUT I nearly always know when AF is coming because I start burping! May have something to do with vagal nerve? Doesn't really bother me and at least it gives me warning of AF.
