Great news Deb and trust me, we all have shared your concerns that AF might return but the important thing is that it has worked! Even if it does come back at some time in the future, the fact that it has worked indicates that the chances are you would respond well to other treatments such as an ablation so it should be seen as a positive step forward in your treatment plan.
I had my cardioversion on 13th March, I was in persistent AF prior to that. Since being in AF (December 2019) I have lost 22 pounds and refrained from alcohol.
Two weeks after cardioversion I went back into AF, i was totally deflated. As in lockdown paid for private consultation with my consultant. 6 days after going into AF I reverted to NSR. The following day I had my consultation on zoom with my consultant. The consultant was confident the reason I went back into NSR was because I had improved my health, a study in Adelaide evidenced that those people with AF, who lost 10 percent of their weight and reduced their alcohol intake, frequently reverted to not having AfF where it was persistent or intermittent when they had been persistent.
A week ago I went back into AF, but 12 hours later I was back in NSR.
The reason why I share this with you is I don’t know what your general health is like, but you can greatly improve your chances of staying in NSR , by making some positive lifestyle changes.
You can google the Adelaide study.
Also if you do go back into AF, don’t feel too upset as you may revert back to NSR.
Wishing you good fortune and that you stay in NSR.
Thank you Steve for your positive post. My bmi is 26 but i do have type 2 diabetes. Going to try my best to improve my diet and lifestyle to maximise chance of keeping it in NSR
Thank you and I will look at article you suggested
