cardioversion

All was going well after my cardioversion on Thursday until Sunday when my heart was all over the place really bad not sure what was going on, sat it out for a couple of hours seemed to settle and then off again felt quite ill and was worried about other arythmia’s went to urgent care to get it checked out.

ECG showed still in normal synus rhythm blood tests came back fine. They did say it may have been because my bisoprolol had been reduced too much, I was on 10mg per day and they told me to take 1.5mg per day which I had been doing since Friday.

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this, I was feeling ok about everything and now it’s made me quite anxious.

Suggest you read paper in packet. Unless things have changed in recent times normal procedure is to reduce Bisoprolol very slowly particularly when coming off it altogether or in a quantum leap reduction as you have done.

My reply would be similar to BenHall1. I'm no medic but that was such a big drop from 10mg to 1.5mg I'm not surprised you had a reaction

. I always read up thoroughly on my meds and trust no one! Bit extreme but thats me. Iwas about to be given a completely wrong infusion once until I queried what it was! Excuse was that another patient had similar name 🤔 😬

Totally agree, it should take weeks, possibly over a month to reduce from 10mg to 1.5mg. Suggest you seek urgent medical advice, quickest and easiest, talk to your pharmacist….

Your body will right itself from whatever caused things to go awry I’m sure. It’s good you’re in NSR. I expect you’re already doing this, but do take things slow and easy and focus on getting the anxiety down- that’ll help recovery more than anything.

Usually cardioversions last for months for me. But the last one only lasted 2 days. My heart rate med had to be increased from 50 mg a day to 100. Now the side effects of the Metoprolol are back( breathlessness, fatigue, depression, weakness in legs)- Going to my doc soon to discuss. Very frustrating and increasingly debilitating.

As others have mentioned, you have to be weaned off a high dosage Bisoprolol. I'd be contacting the EP to find out why you were asked to drop the dosage immediately as this appears to be a bad oversight by someone.

what was your heart rate. I ask because after 1 cardioversion I stayed on bisoprolol my HR dropped to 40 and I felt lousy. GP stopped Biso and I was fine. Had 2 cardioversions since and 3 ablations and stopped biso immmediately. But was only on 5mg not 10mg. As others say talk to doc.

Is you heart rate now stable ?

As mentioned, likely caused by sudden reduction of Bisoprolol. In defense of the doctor, concern was your heart rate would drop too low with 10mg but probably reduced too much at 1.5mg.

My Metoprolol was reduced to .25mg from .50 after cardioversion.

If you are still in NSR, consider talking with doctor about an antiarrythmic drug which may help to maintain the NSR.

Yes heart rate is regular and in the 60,s and I feel fine. I have an appointment with my doctor a week today to discuss future medication and should have a follow up with cardiologist in a few weeks. I was on flecanaide for rhythm control for quite a while but had to stop as it was doing more harm than good. I don’t know if there are alternatives. Hopefully it will all get sorted. and things will settle down.

I hope your cardioversion was and continues to be successful.

I agree with others in that you should have reduced the dose over a few weeks.Your body needs to adjust to the reduced heart rate control.

If still suffering go upto maybe 5mg for a week or two then come down again. I know the pills are small buy try cutting a ten in half to active the 5mg

But if not sure seek medical advice

Thank you, the A and E doctor told me to take an extra 1,25 which I have been doing and I feel fine and still in NSR, pulse in the 60’s so I’ll continue with this now until I get further advice from my doctor or cardiologist.
