My GP thinks that I might be borderline asthmatic and wants me to try a salbutamol inhaler to see if it helps with chest tightness. I'm on flecainide and I was just wondering if anyone on here has experience of taking the two drugs together? I understand that clinical advice can't be given here but I was looking for personal experience.

Regardless of anly contra indicataion re drugs I would have thought such inhalers for people with AF not helpful? My arrhythmia nurse many years ago warned me off.
Sort of yes and no (helpful answer!) as it was not regular use. Since being in sinus I've had not had a need for an inhaler - but I have used both together in the past and found no problems at all.
That's just for me and my personal experience when I was in afib.

Hi Tototcx, I have asthma but luckily only need to use salbutamol if I have a chest infection so not often but in honesty if you really do need it then you need it, AF is not pleasant but not being able to breathe sufficiently is something else all together, I have never noticed any ill effects after taking salbutamol and I also take flecainide and I am sure that there are plenty on here that have much worse asthma than me and who need to take this regularly so maybe they will offer some advice. One good point though is that if you speak to your doctor about a steroid inhaler (one of the brown ones) then taking this regularly will reduce the need to use your salbutamol as will build strength and capacity within your lungs and the steroid inhalers do not quicken the pulse so have never worsened my AF or interacted with my meds, I start taking this if I start to feel the onset of hay fever or a cold and it is a game changer in helping me breathe better and reducing or even removing the need for salbutamol.

Thankyou so much for your reply. Very helpful. My GP is using the salbutamol inhaler as a diagnostic tool because they aren't doing any testing in the surgery just now. If it helps and I can tolerate it then fine. I've to do my peak flow readings for a fortnight and then talk to them again. I'm just nervous about getting a racing heart! I've to take it once and see what happens. This is all very well but it's nerve wracking! Lol. Anyway thanks for your reply 😊
I was given one a few months ago - made me so ill within a few hours and made my chest a lot worse and I then went into AF which I hadn’t had for months. I chucked it.

I found him through a Dr Chatterjee Podcast and have been following his breathing exercises ever since - big improvement.
There are no drug, drug interactions between the 2. Both increase the QT but not by much. There is no LQTS warning on them unless you have congenital LQTS. No ECG observation needed.
