For those of you who have had to stop your beta blockers before your procedure, did you taper off or just stop? I’m terrified of not being on my beta blockers even for a few days even though my EP reassured me I will be ok just uncomfortable. (The ablation if for tachycardia and frequent PVCs)

Stopping metoprolol before ablation
I take Metropolol and have been taking it since 2007. My EP said to take it the night before the ablation and then the night after the ablation, the hospital nurse gave me my usual dose. About 29 hours had transpired between doses. About an hour before the nurse gave me my dose, she asked if I feeling okay. When I enquired, she said that telemetrics could see that my HR was going up. I told her I needed my dose of metropolol. She doubted my suggestion but when she gave me the dose, within 20 minutes, my HR decreased! So just let them know that you need to take it once out of ablation and when taken to your room.
I’ve been taking metoprolol 3 x 25mg daily since about 2013. I don’t recall any change in dosage when I had ablations for PAF in 2015 and 2016. The only drug that was stopped was my morning dose of Apixaban the day of the procedure.
Of course we’re all different, as is the advice of EP’s, based on their clinical assessment of the patient and their own experience and expertise.
Best wishes.
Hello Kipper John!
Was thinking about you the other day, as had not seen a post from you for AGES........I will PM you in a bit
I would suggest that you taper off very slowly if possible. I tapered off very slowly and now not taking any metropolol. My blood pressure is good and I am having hardly any pvc's. I have no ablations. I feel better than I have for a long time. I would also suggest that you eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegies and walk regularly.
My ablation team said me i need to stop taking Metoprolol one week before. My dose was 50 mg and it was slow stop: 3 days 50 mg, 3 days 25 mg and 3 days 12,5 mg.
