I assume the full story is Pace and Ablate where a pacemaker is managing your ventricular rate.
AF is never stopped by this procedure but since the atrium and ventricle are no longer connected your "heart rate" (ventricular rate) will be that governed by the PM so the normal symptoms of AF like fatique and breathlessness are avoided. I know of plenty of people who have had this procedure and many do still become aware of the fibrillation. We have always explained that this is likely to happen whenever it has been mentioned here. Maybe your cardiologist did not fully explain this?
Hi Bob..maybe its just me ...but are your replies always condescending?..Im fully aware of the procedure and how the heart works..The question I was asking was who has had any similar experiences and to coming off flecanide...
Maybe you misunderstand most questions that others post too?, but there again you reply with a comment, making out Ive had a long day??, maybe you should think long and hard before you post sarcastic comments, when your suppose to be an admin...maybe that little bit of power has gone to your head
In trepidation of sounding ‘condescending’ I would like to clarify something.
An AV node ablation without having first had a pacemaker inserted would mean you would be dead - that was Bob’s assumption - as he stated.
The AV node is the body’s natural pacemaker - without it your heart will stop beating.
Pace and Ablate is the last resort treatment for those unable to tolerate drugs and for whom a catheter ablation of the atria has been unsuccessful or the AF returned.
This was the case for me - drugs and 2 RF ablations later - AF returned so I chose Pace & Ablate - where it was explained to me that this would not stop the AF - but it might (no certainties here) reduce or eliminate the very debilitating symptoms which left me with little quality of life. And yes I came off Flecainide but I still had AF - just not the terrible symptoms.
So if your situation is that you had a Cryoablation or RF ablation of the atria for AF and it returned - this is not uncommon. A second ablation may be possible.
If you truly had AV node ablation without first having a Pacemaker inserted - you must be a figment of our imagination.

Bob has had years of experience and has had input as a patient at the highest level so please don’t be rude to someone who has spent so much time and effort to help you, amongst hoards of others by giving you a personal reply.
Hi Bushy, I see you have a 3 lead pacemaker and were booked for an AV node ablation which I assume went ahead. I am interested to know what effect you have from the AF? Because as I understand it you may be aware of your atria fibrillating but should not have debilitating symptoms especially with a 3 lead pm. I can't take any medication so I'm just interested because I may have pace and ablate eventually.
I’m still not getting what you are asking - yes I can read.
Are you asking if others have had symptoms after withdrawing from Flecainide?
OR are you correlating the symptoms you are experiencing with the increase in AF following the Pace & Ablate which the Flec has not controlled? I came off Flec long before Pacemaker because I didn’t want to take a drug that wasn’t controlling the AF anyway because of the potential risks the drug carries. For me the AF was much less of a problem than taking the drug.
If you are now in persistent/permanent AF after 4 ablations, Flecainide & Pace & Ablate what are your expectations of what the cardiologist may be able to offer? My understanding from my specialist was there is little else they are able to offer other than Amiodarone.
Feeling unwell & breathless could be caused by numerous things including both of the above.
