Finally managing to lose weight

Janelr profile image
25 Replies

I wrote a post about 6 weeks ago where af nurse had refused to refer me for a ablation as I’m overweight and I joined a slimming club and I’ve finally lost my first stone!! Cut down on sugar fats eating healthy and it’s working.

I still have persistent af that hasn’t made any difference. Just wanted to say I really struggled to lose weight but found something that works for me.

Good for you Jane :-)

Since changing my lifestyle after being diagnosed with P-AF and that inclues eating less and healthily, I have actually found the less I eat the less I want to eat and I don't get nearly as hungry as used to do.

Yes I’ve found that I now reach for the healthy snacks

Well done you!

Keep it up!

I also need to lose weight. Losing weight helps with a positive outcome for the ablation and means your heart is more likely to remain in NSR.

Let us know when you lose the next half stone.

You should be proud of your achievement.

Well done, it’s hard to lose weight especially when just diagnosed with AF.... extra misery is all you need!

It does help the AF and certainly cheers up the doctors and cardiologists....

Most of all though, it’s great for you.... new clothes!!!

Very good news well done. I’m overweight too and on the list for my third ablation. I’m going to use my period of self isolation as an opportunity to lose some weight in preparation for whenever it comes. I think I will be helped as my husband and I used to lunch out and eating out with friends was a big part of our lives. I’m seeing this as an opportunity to eat more healthily. Also no temptation to pick up a bar of chocolate. Good luck with your ablation when it comes

That's great Jane, and you've lost it so quickly. I know how hard it is. Since I had a nasty and prolonged episode of fast AF in August last year I've been losing weight, mainly because I had an MRI scan which showed my RA was severely dilated. I decided to lose weight and I'm down 36 lbs as of today. I feel a lot better for it. I've done it a lot more slowly than you, yours is very impressive. Still got a way to go, but will keep at it. Good luck.

It seems to take even greater determination when you have AF and possibly a bit longer for weight to come off so- well done on your achievement. It's acknowledged that lifestyle changes can help so good motivation to keep going.

Really well done I’ve been trying to lose weight too and was very encouraged when my diabetes had gone down to more normal because I’d lost weight.

Can I ask what bmi the nurse wanted you to be at before offering an ablation? I have bmi of 30 and have been refused.

Janelr profile image
Janelr in reply tostodge

He said preferably 30 or under , he’d mentioned gastric band I could try for one of them Thought no if I’m going to do it I’m going to do it myself !
