Alternative to 111 in Wales, UK
Someone has gone into Wrexham Maelor Hospital A&E and tested positive so we have the first case in North Wales.
I wish they would give this North Wales number each time they say ring 111
The NHS 111 online site is a better alternative now.
How on Earth can a phone call at 0.45 be appropriate? I would have imagined news of an accident !
Best wishes for a speedy recovery, John.
Years ago my wife tried to ring the 0845 number late at night and it had closed down - think this was back in 2007! We have dialled 111 once or twice fairly recently and to be honest I would have been better off doing what I thought I should do in the first place although the advice given was probably correct for a lot of people. My wife had an eye problem and had already gone to her optician on the Saturday it got worse overnight so we rang 111 and told to go to the hospital of course waited all morning and in the end decided to go back to the optician and they called the hospital and made an appointment at the emergency eye clinic for the next morning. Exactly what they would have done at the hospital but without the wait. I suppose not all opticians would do this but generally specsavers will see you urgently when you have a problem like this. Maybe it was something the 111 operators need to know. At times our optician works at the clinic though my wife didn't see him the 3 times she attended until the problem cleared up.
