best alternative to bisoprolol

Hi folks

I've been on 2.5mg bispoprolol once a day since a minor stroke last November caused by AF. Cardioversion in March put me back into NSR and I'm still there thankfullly.

I am finding however that the beta blocker is making we wheeze and is holding me back from getting back into full exercise. I know this is a side effect of bisoprolol and would like to talk to my GP about changing, so my question is - is there a beta blocker that doesn't cause wheezing?

Also, as I have been back in NSR for over 6 months now do I really need to keep taking the beta blocker?

I’m no expert on betablockers but many have written complimentary views about Nebivolol. I have taken Diltiazem for around three years which is a calcium channel blocker with no problems but for some, it can cause swollen feet and ankles. I think it is a case of trying different options until you find something that suits you best.....good luck

Hi fatwelshbuddha :-) I am asthmatic and take the beta blocker Nebivolol and have done so for 18 months. It is supposed to be better tolerated than other BBs for those with chest conditions and it works for me .

A number of members have changed to Nebivolol, it seems to have less side effects than some BBs . Maybe discuss with your GP if it would be suitable for you .

I've read that nebivolol seems not to cause wheeziness so I'll have a chat with the GP about a change

After four years of breathlessness on Bisoprolol, I was changed to Nebivolol and it has made an immense difference to my quality of life - I can walk uphill, garden and talk excitedly without gasping for breath.

Apparently, Nebivolol acts only on cardiac tissue and not lung tissue. Best wishes
